Hi Dick.

Interesting development regarding the planned erection of the Iwo Jima flag raising statue in Fall River. I learned this morning that the city is putting the original plaster mold up for sale. The bronze statue has been finished and is waiting final assembly. Veterans Day 2005 is the target date for it's completion and dedication..

They ran somewhat short of cash to complete the building of the pedestal on which the monument will stand, but are proceeding anyway. They hope that money from the sale of the plaster cast will cover the final expenses.

The monument is a 2/3 replica of the one In Washington, DC and created by the same man. This might be an opportunity for other Marine Corps organizations around the US to create similar memorials. If any group is interested, they should contact Mayor Lambert's office in Fall River, Ma.
