Hi,New to the site so hope I'm posting in the right place.Recently I bought  2 year old springer spaniel which is fully trained. She is steady as a rock when hunting until it comes to retrieving game . She picks them up gently and brings the back to me, then I have to prize her mouth open to get the bird back. When she retrieves a dummy I just need to roll it out of her mouth.Any ideas how to solve this?

Thanks

Jim

Sounds like she's been force fetched and she's just waiting for the right command to release. You shouldn't have to roll or pry a bird or dummy from her, she should drop it in your hand. Maybe talk to whoever you got the dog from and see if there was a specific word they used to get her to release the bird. Hope this helps.

Dog is long gone now pal. Had a litter of pups out of her and she got really hard mouthed after them. Would tear game apart. Got rid of her straight away
