Super 8 is a fantastic score.

I don't think we ever talked about Harry Gregson-Williams' Cowboys & Aliens and Patrick Doyle's Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

I'm a big fan of Apes. I think Doyle does a much better job with a modern sound than he did with Thor. It has a nice main theme that has a few spectacular appearances and the action cues are very good as well.

Cowboys & Aliens is a bit of a mixed bag, but it definitely has its moments.

I'll post notable clips by request... too hungry to do it now.

I really haven't listened to either C&A or ROTPOTA(!) enough to say something. Just from the film alone, Cowboys worked just fine. Certainly not HGW's best work, but not Favereu's either.

I did want to note that the CSO performing the score to the first Pirates of the Caribbean to the film says this: "...with score by Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer". Makes me smile. That's all.

The best cue of Jerry Goldsmith's career?

For sure. What other movie features such a prominent score?

That cue from The Omen is extremely freaky - Ave Santani.

It may be the worst film in the franchise, but Jerry Goldsmith's Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is probably the best overall score of the series.

Great new themes and phenomenal usage of returning favorites, not to mention one of my favorite end credits suites of all time.

2011 = The Return of John Williams

Tintin is fantastic and the clips from War Horse sound just as impressive.

Man, War Horse is just brilliant. This seems to be one that will ultimately rise above the film itself. Just a guess.

At least Zimmer won't be in the Oscar race this year....
