Journey 2: The Mysterious Island - * * 1/2
About on par with its predecessor, Journey 2 is a big, cheesy and fun adventure film. Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine and Josh Hutcherson all give spirited performances and Vanessa Hudgens provides more eye candy than any of the film's CG.
Andrew Lockington's score is exceptional, filled with thrilling orchestral bombast and exotic vocals and instrumentation.
Too bad Luis Guzman is so damned annoying.
It may be brainless and unoriginal, but Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a decent waste of an hour and a half.
I have yet to watch Journey 2, which is certainly on my Bucket List.
But I did watch Puss in Boots.
Ugh. What a boring movie. While Cars 2 was a stinker, it was engaging. Puss in Boots is right above Shrek 3 on the scale of miserable to watch CGI films. Puss was one of the best additions to Shrek 2, but standing alone in his own film just doesn't work.
The score wasn't that bad. Henry Jackman wrote some decent stuff. A bit of Zorro-esque music never hurt anyone.
But really, the movie isn't fun or enjoyable to watch.
