Bubba Gump knew what he was talking about when he rattled off a million and a half different ways to cook shrimp. But what he failed to mention is that shrimp is also a very low-calorie, diet-friendly choice. If you’re looking to liven up your meals and it seems like your entrée choices have been limited to chicken, beef, pork, fish, or turkey for as long as you can remember, shrimp is the answer to your boredom. You can grill it, sauté it, toss it on your salad, or even wrap it up in a corn tortilla and call it lunch. Not only is shrimp a versatile food, it’s also a healthy source of lean protein that’s figure-friendly. A full three-ounce serving is just over 80 calories, which means you can fill up on shrimp for about one-third of the calories of chicken. Compare it to beef and you’ll easily save at least half the calories in your dish by making the switch. So order the surf and ditch the turf. If you can’t get fresh shrimp where you live, don’t be afraid to snag a bag of frozen shrimp for a convenient time saver. Frozen shrimp can actually be fresher than fresh shrimp because it’s frozen just seconds after it’s caught fresh from the ocean. It’s truly nutritious “convenience” food. Anyway, like Bubba Gump was sayin’, “Shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it...”
