Eighth President - 1837-1841
Martin Van Buren was the first president born in the United States. Raised in Kinderhook, NY, Van Buren is credited with the term OK. After going into politics, he became known as "Old Kinderhook." Soon people began to use the term OK to refer to Van Buren and the word okay was derived.
