We put this video together to explain how to record audio from the aircraft intercom to capture radio and headset conversations.

Good topic but one that should be expanded to show our displeasure with GoPro for their pathetic proprietary Frankenstein of an audio adapter needed for the Hero 5 & 6. I own 8 GoPro's from the first to the 5th. Though the video quality has become better with each version, for GoPro thumb their nose at anyone needing an external mic is pretty arrogant. I've been patient with their buggy software that has left me in the cold when I couldn't get it to respond during a flight but the audio issue has pushed me over the line. I refuse to pay another $50 for a bulky, junky adapter just so I can make an external mic connection. When it came time for me to buy my next GoPro ... I didn't ... and I won't. I will wait it out till they either fix their arrogant ways, the company folds or their competition has something relatively as good. Maybe Garmin????

We have been manufacturing aircraft and heli audio interface cables for all the various cameras for 10 years now - what's happened lately with GoPro is disastrous. Not only did they force customers to purchase THEIR 3.5mm Pro Mic Adapter as mentioned in the previous post, but in the last month the GoPro Developers Network program we were part of for developing aircraft audio cables was terminated abruptly by GoPro with basically a cease and desist notice to all members, and last week they have notified us the 3.5mm Pro Adapter is being discontinued - now not only did they disable all Mic input functions, but now going forward we will have NO SOLUTION for pilots (and neither will our competitors as the interface is data encrypted and not open to developers any longer!)   So I highly suggest sticking with the HERO3/4 cameras to date, or consider other brands like the one we sell, as sad as that is to say.  GoPro is NOT taking care of customers adequately nor those of us that sell and have supported their products to date.

Fly safe, and choose your camera gear wisely!
