I have a Panasonic SD700 which is the older version of the above. We do mostly 4X4 and offroad racing vids and the dirt and grime is taking it's toll on our equipment. I just sent mine and two other cams off for cleaning last week. That's where a GoPro is priceless. I have done a little 3D and looks pretty good as you can get up close enough that mud and dirt hits the lens. I wouldn't allow that with any other camera. What I'm getting at is I would only use a GoPro for 3D in our field of work. So if we were to pursue 3D in any serious way, GoPro is the only option/consideration. So in my opinion a market worth keeping up with from GoPro's perspective.

If they give me a few 3D setul in the colour of black, we'll do an epic mud racing vid. Promise. Hint, hint....

That panasonic lens is probably one of the worst they ever made, it kind of works but not a great solution. I think its f8 and needs heaps of light to be effective plus crops the sensor and is half width squeezing 2 images out of a 1080p frame.

Id much rather use 2x h3b then that lens even if on a panasonic gh3, 2 independant lenses and sensors recording 2 full res images is much better then recording with one sensor at half width per side or other sensor cropping methods.

Its solutions like that lens that give 3d a bad name and people headaches, I love panasonic stuff and 3d but that lens is just bad on so many levels other then trying to find a way to get 3d content on their tv and turning people off both.

That lens and cam was after my SD700 and not a retro fit. Still prefer a 3D Black if available. Even housing for 2 would look great.

Yeah, fair enough. I was thinking GoPro could do 3D 1080p from its 4k sensor better than the Panasonic solution. I was more thinking of its technique rather than Panasonic's specific implementation of it. I haven't, however, seen the results of Panasonic's lens.

I think the big issue with the H3 3D has been that frame rate timing and thus sync'ing is not absolutely perfect. Perhaps that will be fixed in H4 or H3 Plus or whatever it's called, otherwise a specific dual lens camera seems like a good idea

A single lens would still be cropping the 4k sensor and so youd lose quite a bit of fov if trying to get 2 images side by side or top bottom off the sensor.

The 3d housing and cable sync wasnt great and the firmwares were quite hit and miss for it, the hero2 didnt work properly until the last couple firmwares. In my 3d testing with the hero3 blacks there is no sync drift in the videos I have shot and if properly synced in post it works better then it did with the cable.

Cineform doesnt allow or at least didnt allow me to adjust frame sync and so I couldn't use it. Haven't tried it with v2 but if using good visual cues its easy to get sync very close in premiere pro3. I did a test at 120p with some slow motion seagulls and managed to get the wings in pretty close to perfect sync. Even at 30p flying the 3d setup on my phantom its quite possible to get good sync flying it at up to 80kmh between trees and close to the ground with pretty good effect. Not being able to use cineform for 3d convergence has made it a bit tricky doing this all manually so id love to be able to use cineform again for the image settings as this makes it so much easier.
