So, as I stated in my Christmas post, I got Exist Archive and Guilty Gear for the PS4, for Christmas. I briefly played Guilty Gear, which is a pretty cool anime-style arcade-like 2D fighter. For $10, you can't really go wrong. I beat it pretty quickly, at least with the character I was playing, although I didn't do all of the modes. I think I did arcade mode, not the story mode or whatever.

I also have been playing Exist Archive, and I have seen a few good reviews on this RPG. It's also a $10 game, on Amazon. It kind of starts out slow, and I'm not 100% sure about it as of yet, but it does use sort of a turn-based combat system, where you get a designated amount of action points per turn, and you can do combo attacks and such. It's a game that I like a little better after playing it for awhile, but the areas/missions do get a bit longer an repetitive, with lots of grinding involved as the story progresses. I would say that this is definitely in the vain of like a PS1/PS2-era RPG, which is often better than many of the current and last-gen RPGs.

So, I FINALLY got to play Ys VIII... The graphics really don't impress me, and a big part of that is the anime cutscenes that wreak of last gen (or maybe earlier) graphical detail. Although I've just beaten the third boss and really am not far into the game, I can tell you that what makes this game still potentially worthwhile is the boss battles. The third boss battle was pretty hard, and I can only imagine that, as the game progresses, these boss battles are going to get even harder. You can't just attack and run. You have to dodge, use characters that may be stronger/better against certain foes, and you'll undoubtedly be using special attacks, that build up, to end the bosses life. Otherwise, it'll come down to you being drained of almost all of your HP, with 0 healing potions left, and the boss having way more hit points left. So, you'll have to make a choice between dying and hoping for the best, with a special attack.

As I said, I've just started, and there are some crafting things and all, to make healing potions and such, but so far, I've only been able to have 1 healing potion at once. You end up keeping the empty bottle after it's used, to make more. Undoubtedly, there is more to learn about this game. So far, I am happy with the purchase of this game.
