FWW2 - Finland at War 1939-1945 Winter War Alpha for Armed Assault released
To be clear it's for Arma1..
Download link at the bottom of the post.

We would like to extend our gratitude to all those people who came in and helped, or even just offered to help us. You are too numerous to even list.

The main force in this ArmA version:
VonRundstedt -> Mod Leader, Models, Texture art, configs
h- -> Mod Co-Leader, scripting, sounds, configs, terrain
Steelexia -> Models (ret.)
HaraKiri -> Models (ret.)
Ozgu -> Initial work on terrain (ret.)
Peteliuz -> Texture art (ret.)

Special thanks to:
- sa8gecko (coder of the most of our arty stuff, mathematical tutor on many other things as h- sucks donkey balls on these things..)
- Mr. Peanut (binocLOS function)
- Mandoble (current weapon and stance functions)
- SLX (for the awesome dragging the wounded mod)
- topas and Wrzesieñ 1939 Mod
- Invasion 1944
- bdfy and the Lib crew
- The whole rest of the WWII community (from OFP to today)
- OFPEC
- BIS
- The few lads that hung around FWW2 mod forums all this time, wasting their time.
And any other people we may have forgotten...
- Last but not least our families and friends who have had to put up with this for the past 11 years.

We hope that some of you find at least some enjoyment in playing with some of the stuff we have done, albeit it all being in more or less unfinished state.

[*]Static weapons

  • 37mm PstK/36 AT gun
  • M-09/21 Maxim heavy MG (portable)
  • M/1910 Maxim heavy MG (portable, draggable)
  • 50-PM 39 mortar (portable)
[*]Various other type of features such as:
  • Artillery (either called with 'real' spotter [a bit similar to BIS A3 arty, just uses the action menu] or virtual)
  • Armor system in which point and angle of impact as well as distance of the shot plays a part (quite simplistic though)
  • Heavy MGs prone to jamming. Heavy MGs can overheat and brake the barrell, assembling and deassembling require correct procedures with assistant gunner (works with AI [no 100% guarantees, probably broken in many places])
  • Portable weapon systems utilize a scripted system to keep the gunner and asst. gunner operating the weapon on their own (you only have to tell the asst. gunner to start the deployment process)
  • AT mines will explode only when tracks or wheels drive over them (traditional Armor-only-in-proximity mines also available)
  • pipemine has actual line you have to cut for it to explode (invisible line though)
  • Molotov cocktail
  • very sucky looking (but deadly) melee action with bayonet rifles
  • bolt rifles actually bolted, casing eject only when done so
  • planes have: multi-MG, number decals, hit effects: engine fire, wing clipping
  • Arty shells have shrapnel patterns
  • Wounded bleed and die when untreated
  • Medics use bandages to heal, no bandages = no heal (traditional medics also available). Healing is not full, you will continue to bleed. With traditional medics healing is as in default game.
  • We tried to tinker with the AI skills so that there would be less 500-meter-headshot-sniping-while-dropping-prone stuff. Results inconclusive I guess..
[*]No single missions other than a few tutorial missions
[/list]

SOME KNOWN ISSUES (not all of them by far, just the tip of the iceberg):
  • Once the terrain manages to start you are greeted with 'Cannot load object' error which we can't repair as the error doesn't specify any object......
  • All terrain stuff is un-binarized because it would only get mangled by binarize, no idea why..
  • Terrain intro may or may not load up..
  • Nothing is tested in MP, theoretically most scripted stuff may perhaps probably work but there are no guarantees at all whatsoever (and no Warfare stuff included).
  • Bolting action has a annoying freeze for a moment before you can fire again (when firing standing up).
  • There might be some scripting erros/debug 'prints'/etc happening
  • Some buildings have no textures other than weird looking general one applied (some might not have that either).
  • Buildings do not have ruin models so when destroyed they're just sucked down by the ground monster.
  • No proper satmap texture on the terrain (looks horrible)
  • Terrain has the 'blue border'
  • Vast majority of models do not have proper LODs
  • The game may CTD/freeze sometimes

Looks like I finally have a reason to reinstall Arma 1.

Congrats on the release.

I have been personally following your project for quite some time since around 2008. I remember registering and posting here earlier however I lost my old account's email and such (and gosh looking at my comments and english skills years back).

It is nice to see such commitment to a project during all these years.

I'll see if I can make some COOP missions and post them here.

This is fantastic!

Altough this is the alpha version, it still caught me for playing it three hours straight! I love this mod. Models are looking good and effects are great.

Thank you for this FWW2 -team! Highly appreciated

Don't be, they're all bots :P

Maybe we should have placed a download counter, there are quite a few views on this page. I do wonder about the download rate.
I have to go through the config for T-28 so we can include that too as post-release.

Damn! They caught us.

I've been having some fun as well. Some pictures from Finnish platoon retaking a sawmill from the Soviets.

"Somewhere else", Finnish officer observing the nearby village which has been taken by a small Soviet forward-detachment.

Damn fine job overall - there is bugs to be expected from alpha. However the mod is still playable and fun.
