I wasn't sure where to post this so I took the liberty of making this thread.

Firstly of course, thanks for all your work. Even though it's only alpha and really messy, I still love it.

To me, the single most annoying thing right now is the bolting animation. Being stuck after shooting; forced to bolt the rifle right after each shot; sometimes being forcably stood up from prone/crouching after reloads.
I know (or at least I think I do) that the animation system doesn't allow for two animations playing at the same time (to make bolting i.e. like in Iron Front), but at this state I'm afraid to say that even having no bolting anim at all would be a lot better.

The second "big" annoyance is that the trench objects are not high enough to protect your upper body while standing.
That, combined with the messed up bolting makes firing from trenches the last thing you'd want to do.

Those two really are the only things that I consider "game-breaking" (or more like "fun-breaking") at this point.

ps.: Should we (and if yes, where?) post bug reports?

Being stuck after shooting; forced to bolt the rifle right after each shot; sometimes being forcably stood up from prone/crouching after reloads.

I had a plan to make this optional, as in have a key (which raises all sorts of problems) to bolt and/or maybe even have it disable-able via some game options but as with most of the stuff it was in the backburner while trying to get the main mechanic to work.

The standing up from prone/crouch seems odd though, but most likely scripting issue as there is no 100% fool proof way to detect stance in A1 so the function doing that probably fails and defaults to standing (each stance has to have it's own anim).

to make bolting i.e. like in Iron Front

In A2 BIS introduced a thing called 'gestures' which is a secondary set of anims that can be played in lieu with the normal anims.

Which also the reason you stop moving when bolting ion FWW2 because there can be only one anim (also it would make the casing ejecting go FUBAR if you could move  )

Should we (and if yes, where?) post bug reports?

You can post bug reports, there's just no guarantee they get fixed..

You can start a bug reporting thread if you wish :)
This general discussion section fits fine.

Kinda interested to see how much of those there are, apart from the obvious like: sounds being all over the place in terms of volume (and quality), missing shadows on weapons (and other shadow weirdness), buildings with no collision for some reason, AI refusing to go over bridges (although this is a game engine issue dating back to good'ol'OFP), list is endless...

So basically it's even more POS than I thought :D

Some comments on some of the bugs reported in the bug thread (thought I'd keep that clean of clutter)..
- Planes exploding when firing on ground, that is odd because it was a bug early on in the making of those things and I fixed it at least 3 times or something.. Apparently would need 4th fix then. Scripting problem though as the MG's are a sucky hack since the game (not even in A3..) doesn't support multiple projectiles per one weapon.
- Some of the 'back seats' that are available should not be, they are most likely a remnant of some grander plan (like the big guns were designed to be pushable but it was never even properly started on).. The CTDs related to this are most likely because the model's don't even have proxies for the back seat positions but IIRC I could not remove the back seat actions, like they're somehow hardcoded if the vehicle inherits from certain classes, or something.. :dunno:
I can remember wrong though, however the configs are a mess..
- Some of the vehicle related bugs seem like there's something really wrong because they were not that messed up when I tested them the last time.. But, the absolutely horribly bad BinPBO by BIS tends to just fuck things up rather than make pbos..
- Those missing shadows we have had since like forever, we probably won't even notice them since we've gotten so used to them :P
- AI problems with the Maxims, I thought we fixed that years ago, but I guess not..

I noticed some tank /tank crew related bugs in one tutorial mission ("AT weapons"). Tanks / tank crew don't do anything when engaging them. Don't know if it is a scripting related mission "bug" or a real one. Additionally there appeared some plain gray "flat panels" in T28 model:

That's everything what I've observed so far. All in all good foundation for Beta.

That plate thing is a known issue, VonR might have a clue why that happens, I don't.
Some texture alpha weirdness I guess.

And that mission thing is all my dumb-ass fault, the enemy tank column is on "careless" mode
Forgot to change it back from testing setup (I suck playing the game so I would never survive the mission to see if it works all the way to the end, although not sure if it does even now)..:P

Those would be textures for headlights, should be removed, since they refuse to function properly.
Also KT-28 and L10 cannon mounts are present on all variations, which shouldn't happen.

I am actually quite happy we managed to get T-28 MG's to function properly.

Don't worry, we're not :P

The only thing I would be interested in moving into is Arma3 but that's not going to happen either..

Yeah, not happening with current team. My job doesn't leave room for project this scale.
