Evening all.

I've exhibited a few times at Tilford and was planning to again this year so I had a chat with the Rural Life Centre today. They confirmed they have not and will not be able to resolve the insurance issue, so all exhibiters will definitely need there own public liability insurance. I asked if they had any idea where I could find insurance and they suggested I should be able find day cover for around £18 or annual cover for around £60 if I do a search on Google! I raised my concerns that it might put a lot off people attending but they said they have only had one exhibiter pull out. This is really disappointing as they are also going to withdraw the tradition of giving free entry to anyone who turns up with an engine on the day unless they also have insurance, so I wonder if the footfall may be less. Tilford has always been a really good show, and great fun, but I'm not sure what to do now.

Insurance is a necessary evil I’m afraid. I was surprised that the RLC allowed it to happen for so long under an umbrella policy from them.

I’m a little shocked you find this concerning as you have exhibited at other events, such as Hollycombe. I can’t believe for a minute they have an umbrella policy for exhibitors or don’t require any insurance to be carried.. Happy to be proven wrong however.

Evening made-in-england,  I fear you have slightly miss-interpreted my post. I wasn't  saying that I found the need for insurance concerning as I fully understand why this is required in the world we live in, but my concern was that it might put of people exhibiting because of the additional cost. When I was talking with the Rural life centre they explained  that in previous years the event at Tilford was hosted by the Rural life but organised independently from them and the organiser managed to source an independent event cover policy of some form, hence exhibitors like myself with small low pressure model engines (such as my Mamods) did not need to purchase independent cover, so long as we clearly displayed warning signs . Regarding your comment about Hollycombe, last year was the first year I exhibited there and they did not require exhibitors like myself to have independent insurance, so they must have also obtained an policy specific for the event or had some other arrangement in place. Hope this provides some clarification.

I'm also still hoping to go if I can find an affordable insurance policy. There's a chance however that I may be covered or be able to get cover through my Modellers Club, but we're waiting for the insurance provider to get back to us, so keeping my fingers crossed!

OK I'll let you know where I go for the insurance.

I'm sure it would be cheaper for the event organisers to obtain the insurance but I assume that's a conversation that's been had!!

I'm also going to be there as my Modellers Club's insurance provider finally got back to us and confirmed that I am covered under the clubs policy. They've even supplied me with my own copy of the "Certificate of Public Liability insurance".

I had a chat with Tilford today to check the arrangements. The site opens to exhibiters for set up from 07:30 and all cars have to be in the car park 09:50. I'll aim to get there around 08:15 and have booked 3 tables as I'll be exhibiting my entire collection of Mamod's and my son will be exhibiting his 3 Mamod's. When do you think you'll get there Minor1PJG?
