Just wanted to introduce myself as Gary, new to this most interesting hobby of collecting and restoring vintage toy steam engines. so far much enjoyment but I get stuck when trying to find replacement parts or what a missing part looks like so I could make it myself and direction or information would be helpful.

Hi everyone from Jon in Sydney. I'm interested in gauge 1 steam locomotives of all types especially shay, heisler and climax types. As kids my friends and I spent hours running our mamods out doors and the sweet smell of burning meths takes me straight back 45 years. I'm very happy to find this forum.

This loco will represent a typical American narrow gauge logging shay.  It's size is similar to an accurecraft 2 cylinder shay however I have made the boiler too large and it won't supply enough steam to run the SL1 cylinders , Im seeing water out the exhaust port instead of steam. The boiler is 230 millimetres long and 520 mls capacity, what was I thinking ?  It ran well on air so I think I'll shorten the boiler so it actually can boil some water and post the results. If anyone is wondering where the drive gears came from you can find them in old guitar neck tuning heads. The pinions are brass and the worms are steal so must be oiled to avoid rusting.
