Enter the Silver Arrows
Unveiled in 2010 the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3 is Mercedes' first competitive foray into GT racing since the ill fated CLK/CLRs of the 90's. Developed alongside and revealed alongside the road going SLS, the gullwing racer harks back to the days of the 300SEL and it's racing glory.
Featuring the same 6.2L V8 of the road car the GT3 version features a highly developed aerodynamics package with most notably the larger front splitter and air intakes at the tip of the long nose and a huge wing at the rear above the diffuser at the rear end. Truly a global class that GT3 is many SLS GT3's traveled to the far reaches of the globe including Japan and Australia, all scoring various levels of success.
In it's first year of racing in 2010 VLN team Black Falcon scored an overall win at the Nurburgring 24 Hours. Following on from this Black Falcon has featured in many endurance races with their SLS GT3's and in 2012 won the Dubai 24 Hours, a race which they are looking to defend that win at this weekend.
Munnich Motorsports in 2012 began their association with the SLS GT3 in 2012 taking a pair to the FIA GT3....FIA GT1 World Championship and stormed on to take the Teams' and Drivers' titles after an eventful season and controversial finish to the Donington race that closed out the season.
Heico Gravity Charouz are the final team eligible for the FLMS GTC class, in 2012 the team featured strongly in the FIA GT3 Europe championship with multiple wins storming on to win both the Drivers' and Teams' titles.

Mitch, I just noted you mentioned the "ill-fated" CLK-GTR and CLR of the '90s. While the CLR was a relative failure, the CLK-GTR was from from it. Sure, it was a flop at Le Mans in 1998, but it won 16 FIA GT races in the 1997 and 1998 seasons, including every race in 1998, and won back to back championships those same years. It was far from an "ill-fated" car everywhere but Le Mans really.

I'm a journalist, I never let facts get in the way of a good story :P But your point is noted, the CLR was the flipper, not the CLK.

Yeah, the CLR was the airplane wing in disguise as a race car, the CLK-GTR was the one that had it's oil coolers fall apart two hours in.
