Trouble with the COM in my '61 TBird. Need help.....

With engine running and trans in Neutral, rear wheels and driveshaft rotate as in Drive. Speed varies with engine speed.

With engine running and trans in Park, no initial wheel rotation. After I rev engine, rear wheels and driveshaft rotate as in Reverse. Stays in Reverse when back to idle again.

All this done with shift linkage from column disconnected at the trans so I could shift manually at the trans without worrying about a worn detent plate in the steering column. Wheels raised off ground.

Should I pull it out and take it apart? Or are there some checks/repairs I can do with trans in the car?

Thanks in advance.....

Sounds like the Park pawl is broken and the aluminum delivery sleeve in the output shaft has turned.

Nothing can be done in the vehicle.
