@Dorking - I agree with you about the platinum base cards but I got in the Guzan platinum jersey card and those platinum cards look really nice, nicer than the gold or orange jersey parallels in my opinion, I think it's because they had to have the platinum in the base a lot lighter (a grey kind of colour) to keep the card attractive as the platinum effect in the jersey card is darker (black/purple colour).

@rhinorays - I agree about not wanting to pay high prices for some cards, I just forked out $100 for a Benteke 1/1 premier gold and then a Weimann 1/1 platinum just sold for under $40. I feel like I just gave in too much money on the card even though the golds are nicer looking and I guess Benteke is a more popular player amongst collectors. The reason I don't want to pay high prices is so I have more funds for more cards for my collection, buying for 100 when resale may only be 50 doesn't bother me as these are for my collection and not an investment. Hopefully you manage to pick up some rare Sunderland cards at good prices and would love to see your collection when you have a chance to share

I'd be delighted to land a 1/1 platinum jersey (would be Bolasie for me), and the platinum jersey cards on ebay do look a lot more impressive than the base platinum's I agree.

The Connor Wickham platinum jersey is on ebay and it looks great, but for $350 which I can't afford! The buyer is taking offers though so I might still get lucky!

That was the platinum jersey I saw which changed my opinion on platinum's. See there has been 4 offers already, but must say your heart does sink a little when you see a huge price next to a card you are after.

Without meaning to be rude, when it is Palace players and yet the card is approaching £100 (not 'just' $100) you have to wonder if the seller really understands that these are not really the most amazing star players in the League.

I loved the ebay.com auctions in the first couple of weeks where the sellers started even the rarest of cards at 99 cents!!

I'm going to have a go for the Wickham card and see how I get on - with any luck they are just hoping for the best with the price and will take quite a bit less. I've seen some other stuff I'm interested in for BIN's that are too pricey so I'm hoping they'll end up listed for lower prices.
Dorking - much of that applies to Sunderland too - I don't think the likes of Lee Cattermole have much international appeal!

Always worth a cheeky offer. I usually offer just above half the BIN price, and if it is rejected, only increase by a small amount with each offer. I wouldn't have thought anyone would be offering anything like $350 (no offence to Sunderland or its players intended)

I sold a Kaley Cuoco Big Bang auto once and had a bin of $500 and had bidding start at $250. I never expected the bin price to be hit and just put it up in case someone wanted it that bad and it was bought at the bin. I suspect that's what many US sellers are doing with best offer option, putting a crazy price out in the hopes someone will want it bad enough but will more than likely take the best offer they can get which is in their opinion acceptable (hopefully their actual valuation of the card isn't too crazy either).

On another note I've come to the conclusion that the Guzan shot stopper #/11 was never made or inserted to packs (this is me just exaggerating, I'm sure it was made, I just can't find it)

I'm having a similar problem with the Borini Hot Shots #/11 - I've seen one when they were first released and nothing since - I think it's just a case of being patient and hoping any that appear aren't too steep.

Not fancying my chances of getting the Wickham card - I'm trying to get an Altidore #/11 from the same seller and the lowest he'll go to with that is $58 (approx £35) which is too expensive - another seller is selling it as a BIN for £20...

I've been attempting to put together 4 base parallels. The 2 Guzan and the 2 Agbonlahor, before the release I didn't anticipate how costly these would be so I'm going to put my cost in getting these together and if others who have or are attempting to get one together wouldn't mind sharing it'd be interesting to see the difference in costs of putting one together. I know team and player will influence it but I think it'd be interesting.

Guzan (base and insert)

Base: 2/2 ($2)
Green: 2/2 ($4)
Orange: 2/2 ($30)
Platinum: 1/2 ($70)
Premier Gold: 2/2 ($150)

Total = $256 (missing a platinum). Approx. $160 per base parallel set

Agbonlahor (base and insert)

Base: 2/2 ($2)
Green: 2/2 ($2)
Orange: 2/2 ($35)
Platinum: 0/2 ($0)
Premier Gold: 1/2 ($30)

Total = $69 (missing 2 platinums and 1 premier gold). Approx $125 per base parallel set.

I did manage to get the Agbonlahor premier gold 1/1 and the Guzan orange /11 not from ebay so paid far less but putting each one together is far more expensive than I anticipated before the release

I've found that 'completing a rainbow' is extremely difficult. Despite buying virtually everything as and when it came up (including winning almost every bid for item on ebay), for some players it just doesn't happen.

I STILL haven't seen an orange ( /11) base card for Joel Ward despite still watching all ebay variants every day for 3 months now! I'll admit that is a bit unusual, however the 'Premier Gold' (1/1) finish cards are also as rare as hens teeth, and I'm finding that ebay is really drying up now.

I guess that this is 'true' collecting - with my old cigarette cards, there are a few I have been waiting for, for over 20 years now. Admittedly I don't actively search for them daily, but I do have ebay 'watches' set up to alert me. I did think I'd have this over with fairly quickly, however it looks like it will be one that is never quite complete. The few cards I want could be in unopened packets for years to come!

In answer to the question though, typically for Palace players, the typical prices have been

base £2
green £4
orange £10
platinum £50
premier gold £65
Topps authentics blank backs $10

(that's if on ebay.com auctions)

The other main issue for me of course has been all the postage, but I try not to think about that!!
