From Starbucks' CEO to the "Partners" re: plans for the new year:

"By the end of fiscal year 2008, discontinue warmed breakfast sandwiches at our North American stores
We made this decision because, in short, the scent of the warmed sandwiches interferes with the coffee aroma in our stores, which is key to the coffee experience that forges our connection with customers. Moreover, while our customers liked our sandwiches, they told us that they missed the aroma of coffee." From http://www.starbucks.com/aboutus/pressdesc.asp?id=822

Starbucks coffee has a very high caffeine content - presumably to get customers hooked on it! I find it kinda bitter myself.

There was a fancy coffee shop downtown that was part of a local chain that had a smoking room in the back. It was completely separated from the non-smoking section, including separate entrances and there was negative air pressure to keep smoke from escaping when the door was opened. That area was always packed. If I had to discuss something with a co-worker who was a smoker, we would often walk across the street and enjoy a smoke and some good coffee while we chatted and there many like me who did the same. Enter new owners. The smoking section was shut down and the reason they gave us was that the smoke "bruised the aroma of the coffee". The smokers decided that that decision bruised the aroma of our money. The place is now shuttered.

Interesting choice of words.

Hey, I don't even smoke, but cigarettes and coffee seem to be made for each other. What a bummer that you lost your break room!
