I was a single working parent of two daughters from 1977 to 1989 so am familiar with money restraints and lack of food in the house. I used to make this healthy granola and my daughters ate it with yogurt and honey for breakfast or just straight for a snack and if I was able to bake I added this to make puffed wheat cake or rice krispie squares using the granola or would add it into any recipe I made. Sometimes we would have this for supper if there was nothing else. Can put in bowl and just pour milk on it or if you have ice cream it would make a good topping.

I doubled the recipe below and used a large roaster to bake it in.

Single recipe:

1 cup wheat germ
1 cup dry skim milk powder
1 cup bran, oat bran, flax seed, Sunny Boy or Red River cereal or whatever
1 cup nuts of any kind
5 cups oatmeal
1 cup honey
1 cup oil

Heat honey and oil so that it is mixable. Mix all other ingredients in roaster pan ( I doubled this recipe as I said above). Then pour liquid over dry ingredients and mix well. Place in 225 oven. Look at it every 15 minutes and stir well then replace in oven. Bake until dry but not too crispy.

Take out, cool and it will harden. Break into chunks or just break it all up as it cools then put in plastic containers or freezer bags. Keep in fridge or freezer.
