any one out there know if you can dismantle the shrouds from the shock absorber ie the painted bit

Yes you can quite easily with a spanner and vice.

Do you have a copy of John Watts book "How to restore a YAMAHA FS1E"?

Put the bottom "eye" of the shock into a vice so the painted bit is nearest the ceiling.

With a thin 17mm spanner in one hand and a flat screwdriver in the other insert the screwdriver so as to prize up the chrome shroud.

Get that up enough to get the thin 17mm spanner in and locate the nut. One hit with a hammer will loosen the shock and will all come apart

Has anyone tried to repair leaking oil shock dampers? One of my dampers is leaking a bit of oil..

no mate i think they are knacked once they leak they are sealed units only way is patern mate

GET A VICE WHAACK THE TOP JOINT IN THE VICE AND PULL BACK THE SHROUD TO REVEAL A 12 MM NUT UNDO THAT NUT AND BOBS YOUR UNCLE SORTED :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
