I had my father buy me my first laptop today (I will pay for it). This thing is so advanced compared to what I otherwise have, and I can use it anywhere. I am having a hard time typing though as the keyboard is different; I keep hitting the wrong keys and hurting my hands. I hate these fake mice things too but can manage. So, I laying back and doing e-mail instead of in an uncomfortable chair.

I am finally improving. I wanted my family to help with the aquariums but I ended up doing a lot myself. I did shortended versions of cleanings for the 12 and 6 gallon reef tanks. My brother helped (very little) with the 20 and 50 gallon freshwater tanks. The 20 gallon had stopped pumping but the cories who looked like they'd given up where swimming around after the water change. Two rosy barbs have died in the 50 gallon and my gorgeous Queen Arabesque pleco is upside down with her mouth wide open, dying. I can't be positive that two weeks of no maintenance and improper feeding did it but I'm sure it didn't help. Tomorrow, the goal is to do the 65 gallon tank which at least has that UV sterilizer in there that kept things in better shape. I don't know when I'll manage the turtle tank which is so filthy, you can now smell it 10 feet away.

How do you guys use laptops? This short typing session is making my fingers really hurt!

So sad about your fish loss but good that you are feeling up to doing a few things. Moving around a bit is good for your recovery as long as you don't overdo it and don't do any lifting over the limit the doctor set.

You will adjust to the laptop quite quickly. They are awkward for a little while because of the difference in size of the keyboard and the pad instead of a mouse but it won't take long before you are comfortable with it.

Hi Robyn
What went wrong to get your aqariums into the sorry state they are in after only two weeks? :(
Did someone overfeed, because if so that is such a shame, all your hard work going down the pan like that so to speak. :o
We hope your Arabesque pleco pulls through The turtle tank sounds very bad with the awful smell coming from it, what filtration do you use or it Extenal ?if so be very careful in bending.
We still worry that you are doing far to much too early and dont understand why the rest of your family wont chip in and help you with all the work on the tanks. :(

I use a laptop, this Dell one to be exact: http://www1.euro.dell.com/uk/en/home/La ... &cs=ukdhs1 which I like a lot!
My husband also has a Macbook Air laptop.

When I first started using laptops (long time ago), they were difficult to use, now it just comes naturally to me!

Laptops RULE! I love mine. I will never, never, never have another desktop.

Takes less space.
Portable
ONE cord ( two if you've got it attached to a printer)

I'm on my second one. My daughter has a mac, but every one else has both a laptop and desktop (for games, flight sim....) Derrick, I used to use a mouse when I first started using the laptop, but now I just use the touchpad. You get used to it after a while.

Enjoy it.

There's too much to do on this computer and it's all new! As soon as you get used to something (keyboard, program, operating system, it changes!). I got a Satellite E105-S1802 by Toshiba. Aside from the fake mouse and not being able to print from here (just flash it up to the regular computer I guess) and this strange keyboad, I don't know that I'd want to use that other computer again! This one is so much faster. It has a webcam too but I don't have a clue how to use it. It plays video faster that our regular computer. So, I've got Windows 7 (they can't leave anything alone, keep you on your toes), 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, DVD/CD drive, USB port for my 8 GB flash which has all my files and web site on it. I haven't tried to write my lists on here yet. I do them daily, and it's been almost 2 weeks now! Trying to keep track will be hard.

I did the 65 gallon tank today, and the outdoor rabbits' litters. Tomorrow, I'll try to do the turtle tank but it's the most difficult when you have to do a total cleaning. Since it's grotesque, it will need a total cleaning!

I keep my tanks in pristine condition and pretty crowded. They're used to weekly water changes and filter cleanings. The filters were all clogged up on most of the tanks. It all adds up. I hope to catch up on at least animal chores before I have to go back to work. As for cleaning the house and stuff, that's all gone bye-bye. I can't physically do it, and my family refuses. I hope I don't slip and fall on the growing layer of dirt on the floor!

I'm so sorry to hear all of this news Robyn, why your family doesn't want to help I can understand a little as my DH doesn't share in my animal chores either as he doesn't want them & they are my responsibility, but I must say when I had my recent surgery he did clean litter boxes (9 of them) for a week, & that's a lot for him. You need to NOT lift after your surgery or you risk serious damage, you might just have to pay some one to help you for a bit. May I ask why your family won't help, is it because they are your animals & they have no interest in them?
Hope you will be better soon.

As far as the laptop, get yourself a wireless mouse they are cheap & work great, I hate the touch pad & the keyboard does take some getting use to but laptops are great!

Hi Colourful Fish

Mac users are very loyal to their product. Everyone that I know that has a Mac would not use anything else. I will say this about the Mac's, my daughter has been using hers for about 4 years now and she has NEVER had any problems with any virus of any kind. I did upgrade her hard drive last year to give her more space (60 gig to 320) because her music took so much space that she was having trouble trying to get her work done for school. For under $200, she got an upgrade and the transfer of data. I thought that was pretty reasonable. Of course the Mac's upfront cost is sooooo much more than a regular laptop.

I used to be a Mac user (graphic arts) and I was completely loyal for many years and it is true that you don't get many viruses written for Macs (most of them are written for Windows) BUT it wasn't even the initial cost of the Mac that made me change to PCs it was the cost of the peripherals - printers, scanners etc for Macs cost a LOT much more than for PCs and every time there was a major change in the operating system all the peripherals would have to be replaced because they didn't work anymore. Also there was a lot less software available for Macs and very few games. When they introduced OS 10 it was going to cost me an arm and a leg to replace everything so I changed to PC for about a third of the cost.

Macs are great but I'm so used to PCs now I wouldn't change back.

Broxandval - :D even YOU would be able to use a Mac! Seriously. My dad had a little play with it and he got the hang really quick and he is NOT pc literate at all hahaha

Hey Sabrillo and ColdGold - yes the initial outlay cost is very high compared to a regular laptop. Never *touches wood* had any viruses or anything else go wrong with it. Must admit though, we bought the Mac OS X Snow Leopard and it has not made it faster or more efficient like it claims to
