As the laps are closing in, you start to hear noises in your car that you haven't heard before. Just wondering if everything will hold up for the last few laps....When I cross the line first, I pump my fist knowing that I just beat some of the greatest figure 8 racers in the nation! And that is what I race for each week....Knowing that I can compete against guys that have paved the way for racers to live a dream. I remember telling myself when I was a kid that one day I will be able to beat guys like Rance Harmon, Steve Browne & Leonard Basham. Well, I was only able to compete against Basham.
But what a treat it has been to be a part of figure 8 racing as a kid, a fan, a spectator and now a driver!

Not a lock for the 3 Hour....But I can promise you that I will do everything I can to get there !

Raymond's old car is the old car that he last drove before the Harmon car. The white car he last drove for Jim French and Calvin Crain. In fact, I believe it is the same car he wrecked me at Speedrome with....lol.

They have quit this event....It was really a fun event to run! They would put dirt on the floor of "freedom hall" and we would get after it in tight quarters!

Dad drove the #48 for Bob Newton for a few years at Sportsdrome and even ran at Charlestown Speedway when it was dirt!
It was a blue and white 69 Chevelle.

Me personally, I think we would get more cars if we ran wings all the time. No more taking them off and on and changing your set up back and forth!
If he would let us run them all the time, I would race every week. If not, I will only run the Series...

There was a lot of talk about paving the Sportsdrome the last couple years but I haven't heard anything lately on this. Do you know what the plan is? The track is really starting to get bad.

1st victory was at LMS in the "C" Feature, yes that means we had enough cars to run 3 features....It was about the 3rd time I ever raced a car.
The first car I bought an old Ford from Mike Russ and I got lapped in aheat race at Sportsdrome. I refused to run the feature and told my dad that we needed a REAL race car to compete....We bought a 1975 Monte Carlo from Buddy Vertrees and won in our 2nd outing!

As of now, I don't know of any plans to re-pave the track. The economy is horrible and it would cost something crazy like $150,000 to re-pave it. So I wouldn't look for any new pavement soon! lol.

Speaking of pavement, what do you think about the Speedrome track with its paved infield in comparison to the Sportsdrome and Anderson?
