How to Quickly Link Freedom Threads

Have you ever wanted to share a thread link with other members but you didn't know how or you felt that it would take too long? Here is a list of links from many of Freedom's 23 different message boards and it took only seconds to add each of them. They were each added with only one new post composing screen open as I looked through Freedom's 23 message boards and selected the desired threads. There were exactly six steps for adding each of the above links and the six steps took no more than a few seconds.
  1. Go to one of Freedom's message board thread index pages and locate the title of the thread that you want to share.
  2. Highlight the title of the thread on the thread index page.
  3. Click your browser's copy command (or right click your mouse and then click copy).
  4. Return to your post composing screen.
  5. Put your cursor where you want the link to appear
  6. Click the PASTE command on the posting screen tool bar.
Only one of the above steps requires any skill whatsoever. It's step number 2, learning to drag your mouse and highlight only the intended words.

Inside your computer is a temporary storage site called the "CLIPBOARD." Whatever you COPY or CUT to your clipboard will remain there until you either COPY or CUT something new, or until you turn your computer off. Anything that is on your CLIPBOARD can be immediately reproduced on any other screen that allows you to PASTE by simply clicking on the PASTE command.

If you copy a thread title from ANY thread index page, you will also copy all of the hidden link codes that come with it. In order to do so properly, you must copy all of the thread title but ONLY the thread title and nothing else. Simply insert your mouse pointer at the very end (or beginning) of a thread title and hold down your mouse button while at the exact same time that you drag your mouse over the full title. If done properly the entire title will then be highlighted. Once highlighted simply click either the COPY command at the top of your brower screen OR right click your mouse and then select the COPY command.

This thread has been indexed under the "Getting Around" message board. Have fun linking threads and showing newbies around !

The way you do it is to go to either the beginning or the end of the sentence or link and click your mouse and CONTINUE TO HOLD IT DOWN as you drag it to the other end of the sentence. Once you get there it should be completely highlighted. If you let your finger off of the mouse clicker it should stay highlighted. Now, while the pointer is over ANY highlighted portion either click on a copy or cut icon , or if none is present, then right click your mouse and the copy command should appear. When you click on it, the entire highlighted phrase (or link) will be copied to your clipboard. Now all you have to do is paste it into your post compostion box by clicking on the little clipboard icon (PASTE).

Give it a try. Do an easy one link Joel's Library in the left margin.

To the end, click, hold down, drag to the other end, righ click, copy, come back and paste. Joel's Library

It's ok to mess up, that's why this thread is here is for practice. If you keep deleting your old threads we'll never be able to see where things went wrong : )))) It might just give us a clue !!

I think that I know what you're doing wrong, Glenys, Dancer and Arravee! You didn't think we noticed did ya! LOL You can not link to a thread by highlighting and copying on the title of an individual post. It must be a LINK that you are trying to copy or it will not be underlined.

At the very top of this thread it says:
Tips & Tricks - How to Quickly Link Threads
As you can see, it was not underlined above - indicating that it was a link - nor is it underlined now. In order to be able to copy any thread title it must be an actual link to start with. The following link is back to the thread index page for "All Topics" and it ALWAYS contains 50 thread titles, each of which are actual links that you can copy and past into any message. When you put your mouse cursor over any of the titles you should see that it is underlined. Give it a try again and remember, you have 22 different message board thread index pages to pick from!

Hi to all Freedom

This is the lazy man's way to copy from the thread index page as it was done with a single highlighting, copy and paste.

This took a bit more time but it's neat : ))

And Mr. Newbie you may also want to read these wonderful threads: Tips & Tricks - How to Quickly Link Threads, First post - fourth day - Yay!, My first post, YIPPEE! I'M GREEN TOO.!!, First Post, I Can't Quit or I Won't Quit (by Joel. ), The Isolation of a Widowed Smoker (also by Joel. ), WCS Dancer is BRONZE!, and Hi to all Freedom !

The above sentence required that I highlight, copy and paste 11 different times (Joel's info twice). Also notice that we can copy links to a member's profile like I did with Joel above.

One other important tip!

It's much easier to copy from location to location if you open TWO (or more)browser windows to start. Just click on your browser's icon on your desktop or at the bottom of the screen (if it appears there too) and a new, second, browswer window will open. This will allow you to use one window to locate thread titles for copying while the other window is used for composing your post. Sometimes I have 7 or 8 browser windows open at once, each with something else to confuse me : )))

John, you are indeed a legend. A patient teacher - more so than me I suspect, lol. Yes you are quite right, I misunderstood altogether. I thought I could link to a particular member's post blah blah blah. Thanks again Cheers from Glenys

Thanks - I'll have a practice somewhere - printing it out this time. By the way, where's that page full of links you were keeping for yourself?? Would you mind if I use them (just at times when you're not around of course ).

Here ya go Ingrid. I actually had to dig a bit tonight, 'cause I didn't have the sleep or weight gain stuff here. Might be time to update my page.
