Success Stories: Before and After

There is a lot of learning and motivation that can be gained from reading through the early threads of some of our successful quitters, and seeing the difficulties they faced, the support they received, and the ultimate success of their quits.

Due to the real issue of Help Message Thread Titles, and the potential for them to give the mistaken impression that somebody is in trouble days, months, or even years after the trouble occurred, bringing these posts to the top (after the difficulty has passed) is not something we like to do.

SO, here's a thread to capture Freedom's trials, and ultimate success stories. I've gathered links to a few success stories from golden members who posted early help messages. I'll post them individually below (so that if a member would prefer that I omit their post(s), I can do so without deleting an entire thread of links).

No doubt there are many of us who have our own favorite help-threads. Please post them here. The lessons could provide serious sustenance for our members who are just now encountering their own moments of truth. Perhaps you have a link to an early post from your own quit (it doesn't have to be a help-thread).

I do ask that, if you post the thread, you include either a link to a post that demonstrates the person's success down the road, or, if a post isn't readily findable, a little explanation about how the member survived their trial, and is now a comfortable ex-smoker.

NTAP,

Bob

Thanks Bob for creating this thread. Yesterday when I brought up this issue in the string Bringing negative posts to the top I was running out the door to do a lecture. As I was driving off I was thinking I needed to delete the whole thread and copy it to a whole new thread with a new title and an explanation to its usage. But this post may solve that problem.

Bob has shown us a number of strings here that illustrate the point of people who had a hard time at one point and came through with flying colors. I hope that when people go read those posts now they go in fully aware that we don't want additional comments written in those string popping them back to the top. The first time any of them come up we will attach a big message at the end not to bring them up again with a note referring back to this string.

Bob, where did you index this thread? I want to make sure it is easy to find when we want to bring it up again.

Joel
