I've been having trouble getting my '63 t-bird to start. It will crank normally but will not start. I am getting fuel to the carb and I have spark from the coil and at the plugs. The ignition has basically new everything. I think my timing is o.k. but I can't tell without starting the car. The dwell is at 26 when cranking. The choke is closed like it should be. I don't know where to look next. Please help.

timing could be 180 degrees off. the crank shaft rotates two times for complete cycle and could easily have gotten off. Did you change the distributer?

Yeah I made sure that the piston was at TDC. I pulled the #1 spark plug to check it.

......'cause the piston could be on the exhaust stroke. Use a fuel hose or s.th. similar that fits tightly into the spark plug hole. Blow some air into the chamber and see if it compresses or if it escapes through the exhaust. For the #1 firing position rotate the crank accordingly.

The #1 piston is at the top of it's travel, the crank dampner is right at 0-TDC and the distributor is pointing at #1 plug wire. What am I missing? Are you saying that this could be the exhaust stroke? If this is the case then can i just rotate the crank once more and re-install the distributor?

....but you should first check with the hose if you're at the exhaust position. Good luck
