I was surprised to see a Brown thrasher go to the suet feeder this morning.   I bought some suet that has orange in it, seems harder than other suet cakes, lasts longer, and is attracting a few different birds. Brown thrasher 8.20.18.JPG

Breeding season is over now and birds are moving around so all bets are off. Time to expect the unexpected. I hadn't heard a E Screech-owl since last spring but one woke me up Saturday night and again last night.

I think the Brown Thrasher is molting.  Saw it (or another one) today and noticed it looked a bit strange. Molting Brown Thrasher 1.JPG Molting Thrasher.JPG

My guess is it is a young bird that fledged somewhere near you. Then again I am not sure of the molt schedule for Brown Thrasher. He probably shouldn't be out in public looking like that
