Exceeding Number of Rows on Retrieve

Hi all,
I'm stumped. I am using the Excel classic add-in and Excel 2007. I'm retrieving from Essbase 11.1.2.0.
I opened up a brand new workbook and I have verified that I have 1048576 rows available on the worksheet.
Yet, when I try to drill down to zero level on one of my larger dimensions, I'm getting the error message
"Maximum number of rows [65536] exceeded". Does the add-in default to just 65536? Is there a way to drill down to the available 1048576 rows?

Sorry, the classic add-in has a real limit of 65,535 (or whatever) rows. Who would ever need more than that? :)

As I recall, that was also the limit of what, Excel 4, 3? Too long ago to remember.

Smart View can do more, but you will need to edit its essbase.properties (actually APS' configuration file) as the default limit is *5,000* rows.

I have successfully, albeit very slowly, pulled 250,000 rows into SV and then realized -- why am I doing this in SV?

Hi Ana,

The classic add-in is hard-coded with a limit of 65,535 rows x 256 columns. Smart View and Dodeca can both retrieve up to 1,048,576 rows.

Here is a screenshot I posted on my blog showing the results of a big zoom-in in Dodeca; it ran in less than a minute.

Sure it is! However it is always nice to inform board users about products that behave much better than editor's on.

I think the help:sales ratio is > 50:1.

Even the few posts that might be interpreted as "salsey" are probably intended more to help than sell, i.e., he sees a problem that is elegantly solved by a tool, it just happens to be a tool he knows well.

Hmm.. There is this other post on the board right now entitled "SOX audit issue - priority enhancment <EOM>". I wonder if I should mention on *that* thread that Dodeca has built-in Essbase audit logging into a relational database and also audit logs changes to the Excel templates (and that one of our large banking customers just added 2,000 users to their Dodeca implementation as internal audit mandated they use Dodeca to reduce risk as part of their SOX compliance)..

Nah.. Maybe I shouldn't respond to *that* thread.. <BigGrin>

When using the Essbase Add-In if you exceed 65536 rows we get an Error in office 2007 with Essbase 7.1.2.0. as “Maximum number of rows processed [250000] exceeded [303892].”

Can you please tell us how many number of rows and columns does the Essbase 7.1.2.0 support in excel 2007 and how many rows and columns can be added more. And what is the process for the same?

The error message you are seeing is the max number of rows that can be processed in a retrieve.

For example, you could porcess more than 65k rows if you have suppress missing and zero rows and it only return 4 rows.

The process limit is set at the server level and defaults to 250K. Take a look at the SSPROCROWLIMIT setting in the tech ref.

When using Essbase if you exceed A-IV columns you get this message....

“Query execution aborted. This query requires a [21]k buffer. Set or increase the query buffer size to [21]k.”

could you help for this??
