there should be a pre-season match between town and linnets.
play for a shield or something and both clubs split the profits.
if the game was played just before the start of the season when most football fans have been missing football for a few months with the sun shining on a saturday afternoon a crowd of 800 is possible.
some might say this could take the edge off the league meetings but the revenue and intrest in local football could be more valuble to both clubs.
what do you think.

i think its a fantastic idea and has been mentioned by us town supporters amongst ourselves.we havent approached anyone at towns commitee with this suggestion cause we dont think alas it would happen in reality, but it makes sense from a lot of views and would increase more interest definatly in the two teams a shield aka runcorn shield pre season game played annually home and away.i think it would work very well but i dont think linnets board would go for it.

Whilst the 2 clubs are in the same division its not worth doing.

"Whilst the 2 clubs are in the same division its not worth doing. "

an whats your reason why.

surely the extra money and awareness to the two teams are enough of a reason to at least try it.

I dont think its a good idea.

All your doing there is milking a cash cow. If annual friendly's are arranged it will definatley take the edge off the league games and the crowds will drop I think.

I dont think either board would go for this.

why wouldn't the linnets board want a pre-season game that could make the club money or towns for that matter.
on the playing side the two clubs should both be fighting for the top spots next season (unless rammy bottle it) and could help improve both teams so they start the season well.

both clubs need to progress, the game would help from a financial and awareness point of view.
no brainer really.

@ste biggy
the only way to find out is to try it ste.
it could bring in more on the league fixtures. it could be more of an event with the youth teams playing first. a chance to showcase the best runcorn has to offer on the football front at both levels.

I would envisage that the league crowds for this fixture will drop off next season and over future seasons.
The games this season have been novelty. They have attracted along 200/250 people who dont normally attend either teams games.
But once that novelty wears off, they will start to level off at the 300 mark.

Teams from the same league rarely play each other in pre-season games or friendlies.

It would be much better for the two teams to attract the likes of United, City, Liverpool, Tranmere etc along and get the publicity off the back of that.
