Bit of a **** opening game, to have someone like Witton is not exactly going to shout to the people of Runcorn. Dissapointing in a way, but I'll still be there.

The next 2 weeks should be used to build up the event.

The idea of the first match being against Witton is as a thankyou to our landlords but also this will give us a gentle introduction to our new facility. Having a huge opening game against Liverpool or someone would be good but if the new ground staff couldnt cope with a huge crowd then that could be terrible for the club.

The opening day should have been turned into a family funday. (Theres a group calling for the re-introduction of the Runcorn Carnival who would have been overjoyed to have helped run it).
With events on in the morning, invite Wire FM or City FM along.
A BBQ, bouncy Castle for the kids, beat the goalie competition, junior football game with the youth teams. Perhaps a local band and dance troupe performing on the pitch.
Getting both the local community and the Town of Runcorn involved.

With a local celeb to cut the ribbon or even kick off the game.

The publicitiy for this should have been built over the last few weeks.
More awareness on the official site, with things such as A key Ground fact relating to the days until the new ground opens.
Most the ground info is hidden away in the ground blog, rather than being shouted about on the home page.

As someone pointed out to myself yesterday, its not about the new ground and who the opposition is, its all about the chance for a few individuals to take the plaudits and be seen to have their backs publicly slapped, to go along with the other life president titles they hold.

Look at the event that Runcorn Town are organising in a few weeks time, its an ideal way to promote whats going on.
