Peter Harris has updated his ideas on the academia website.

The unit is 14.142 inches an excellent approximation of root 2 and the unit works with the imperial system and the system Thom discovered at the Aubrey circle Stonehenge

It is a complex unit and an example of how these units were curtailed to make them more accesible than the repeating infinite units.

The unit is 99/7 x 16499 / 16500 = 14.142

99/7 = 14.14285714 repeating infinite unit of 4.5 x 22/7.

To use this unit at the aubrey circle Pi as 22/7 needs to be amended to 22/7 x 16499/16500 = 3.142666667 ( infinite number single repeating pattern.)

There is a proof of the Harris and Stockdale Megalithic foot of 14.142 imperial inches.

Multiply by 4 to get the square

56.568 perimeter

divide by 9 and multiply by 10 to get the escribed circumference around the square

62.85333333r

Divide by the adjusted version of pi as 22/7 = 22/7 x 16499/16500 = 3.14266666r

62.85333333r / 3.1426666r = 20

So the circle radius is 10.

I posted this because i am in reguar contact with Peter Harris and promised him i wll do my best to promote his work ( Norman Stockdale the co author was his father in law, sadly departed.

The discovery of a unit 14.142 inches 1.785 feet long that translates length into astronomical information mirrors Thom's findings and they spent over 40 years amassing their data and were in contact with Alexander Thom.

He discovered a unit of 0.816 inches used in the cup and ring markings at megalithic sites but they have discovered this different unit using the same cup and ring markings. This is a quandary, they can both be wrong but only one can be right probably. The chances they are both right given their data sets and findings is remote.

They are both RIGHT!!

Because of the similarity in the two approaches the units have had to be labelled as follows.
The Harris and Stockdale Mehalithic Foot of 1.1785 imperial feet 14.142 inches
The Alexander Thom Megalthic yard of 2.72 feet or 32.64 inches.
The HSMF and the ATMY for short.

The unit that meges the two is 0.686897 inches x 56 = 38.46624 /12 = 3.20552

This is 1.1785 The HSMF x 2.72The ATMY.

What this means is that when one megalithic yard is used as a diameter the circumference will be 2.666r units.

2.72 x 3.142666r = 8.548053 this is exactly 2.666r units of the merged units.

NO NEED TO KNOW PI!!

Using only megalithic yards as the diameter the circumference will be megalithic yards x 2.666r
