Kyra double-checked her d-ban and frowned. The way this Dorumon spoke of a 'Digimon form', it made it sound like she was a human that had spirit evolved. But Kyra had never seen a human evolve to just a Child-level spirit before. Her own line started at Adult, as had the others she had glimpsed, such as AJ's and Zack's. Could be related to that disturbance, Kyra mused. Things had seemed different since then.
"Shame we never got a chance to recruit anyone," said Bishop, striding close to Kyra. He kept his voice down so that no one else would be able to overhear him through the growing storm. "Y'know, before she with a bed of broken glass kicked the bucket."
"Growing her army wasn't really what we signed up for," said Kyra, frowning slightly as an extra sticky patch of mud latched onto her boot. Bishop reached back and gave her a light tug, helping her loose. "But I do imagine we could have done well at coercing people to join." It was amazing what people would do under the threat of impending bodily harm.
"Ever think about going into business for yourself, Kyra?" Bishop winked at her. "Get a little promotion from 'Princess' to 'Queen'? I imagine you would do quite well." He flashed her a devious yet friendly grin.
"Eh," Kyra gave an idle grunt, the cloak rippling as she shrugged her shoulders. "You three are all I need." There was no questioning Kyra's relationship to her partners. Despite Vanguard's recent overbearing behavior, Kyra had never wished that her guardian angel would go away. Nor would she trade Bishop, born of Vanguard's castoff data when she was badly hurt, for anything. Even One had proven himself tough, and he had fought by Kyra's side through some very dicey situations.
"A bit of wandering, I suppose," Vanguard flapped along, staying close to the Dorumon in case she ended up needing help. It was also true that part of the swamp bordered where they made their home, but even with Kyra not technically being a dark tamer anymore, it still seemed best to be careful with that information. "My name is Vanguard. Those are Kyra and Bishop. There's also one, heh, more out here with us." Her chuckle was brought on by her accidental pun. Who picked a name like One, anyway? Had it been the Commandramon's idea? Or Zack's? Kyra would surely suspect the latter, but Vanguard wasn't sure.
"Here we go," said Bishop, approaching a small hill. It was rather less swampy than the surrounding ground, and so had a number of trees providing a thick canopy to help block the rain. Amid a crag of rocks, glowing orange firelight was visible, highlighting the entrance to the small cave.
