This may sound fatalistic but I think most models will end up like this in 10-15 years, which I think is the lifespan of a diecast model. Maybe a tamiya-like plastic is the way to go?

Well I have a lot of diecast for longer than 10-15 years and none of them look anything remotely like the ones on the pictures.

Very helpful list, thanks.
What about Kyosho Ferrari & Lamborghini models? Anyone ever heard about them having such problems?

That is frustrating! A lot of investment wasted. I wonder what causes this. I have some models that are around 10 years old
but looking at them, they are ok so far. :nono:

This pest seems to be a problem in the mixture of the materials, or the use of low quality components.

Just checked mine and I don't have these problems on my models. I have the same M3 CSL from Kyosho, the 456 from Hotwheels and the porsche gt3 RS from Autoart. I am suspecting it's the environment that the models are in.

I've seen that pest in different environments, from a dry to a wet place.

Then I think I am just extremely lucky not to have this issue as I have over 300 models and none of them has this .....so far. My house is constantly controlled at a certain temperature with just the right amount of humidity at 20 - 30 percent. Heater during the winter times and air condition on summer months. Models are not in direct sun nor direct light above it but all are kept in display cases that are sealed from dust.

could it be the conditions under which the models were kept? Perhaps keep them away from dust and high temps.

It doesn't matter where you keep the models, if they are affected, in my opinion.

Another one to the list:
