THE TALE AT THE SCALE

In the meeting room of the Centro Sportivo Collana the fighters in tomorrow night's contest will speak to reporters and media representative after their official weigh-in.  First on the scales is the hometown fighter Maria Cristina Caputo wearing a pink two-piece bikini.  At 168 centimeters her announced weight is 65.8 kilograms.  She poses briefly to provide a photo opportunity for the photographers and invited guests.  She looks in magnificent physical condition.  As she moves to the interview table, her rival for the match Ms. Enza Marzilli comes to the scale.  She is a brown-haired lovely weighing 67.4 kilograms on a 168-centimeter frame.  Known by the ring name "La Prof" this 49-year old has held both Italian and European Middleweight championship.  Her black two-piece highlights an athletically contoured body befitting a top model.  Both fighters sit before the microphone ready to answer the preselected questions contributed by the promoter.

First question for Enza :  Do you feel your age will be a factor in the coming fight?
Enza :  Only in the area of ring experience.  I have fought more fights of a superior caliber than my opponent.  As the professor I expect to teach her a thing of two about ring generalship.

Second Question for Maria:  As the homedown fighter do you consider this an advantage in your performance tomorrow?
Maria:  Yes, I know that many of my fans and supporters will motivate me to attain the victory.  I will let them see what youth and ring skills can accomplish against a fighter who is past her peak as an athlete.  Youth will prevail.

Third Question for Enza :  What is your prediction about the outcome of this contest?
Enza:  I will win the fight.  Using my arsenal of jabs and combinations I intend to keep her backing up, seeking to defend herself against my concentrated attack.  In that way I will exhaust her physically while imposing my dominance psychologically.  She will realize she can't beat me.

Fourth Question for Maria:  You scored a knockout victory against Sandipta Verma can you do it against "La Prof"?
Maria:  I certainly can.  I've studied videos of Ms. Marzilli's past fights with my manager/trainer and believe we know the deciding deficiency in her fighting style.  She won't see my knockout shot coming.

Final Question for both contenders:   What does a victory over your foe contribute to Enza your career?
Enza:  It will prepare me for a future championship challenge.  Every fight presents it own unique challenge.  In this fight I can convince the IGL management that I am still the best contender and that my age is no hinderance to my future advancement to the top.
Maria:  After beating this former champion, I will be elevated in the rankings eligible to get a championship challenge opportunity.  I want to look good in front of my hometown fans.

The two women pose in a faceoff previewing tomorrow's confrontation.  Good luck to both women.

HOMETOWN GAL

MARIA CRISTINA CAPUTO - MIDDLEWEIGHT -  NAPLES, ITALY- Record: 3-wins (1-KO) 4-Losses 1-Draw

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Versus >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

ENZA "LA PROF" MARZILLI - MIDDLEWEIGHT - BONDENO, ITALY - Record  10-wins  2-Losses - 2-Draws

The audience is prepared and excited for the matchup of two Italian Middleweights.  The audience with a sizeable majority of men have been waiting for this match.  First to enter the ring  in the red corner is Enza Marzilli who gets a polite but not overwhelming welcome from the patrons.  As she stands in her corner she seems confident and completely at ease.

STANDING IN THE RED CORNER IS ENZA MARZILLI LOOKING RELAXED AS SHE AWAITS HER FOE.

She has the word "50" written on the front of her fight skirt.  Her birthday is still a couple months away, but she is not afraid to publicize that coming milestone.  Will age be a factor tonight when she faces an opponent who is 29-years her junior?  We'll have to wait and see.  How many women look that great at the age of 50?
Next to enter the arena is the hometown gal, Maria Cristina Caputo who gets a tremendous ovation from the audience.  There is little doubt she is the favorite in tonight's rumble.  She makes a graceful circuit around the perimeter of the ring waving and throwing kisses to the crowd. She wears a gray and white top with a fight skirt with a red, green and red stripe around the waist and her name "Caputo".  She wears black gloves and will occupy the blue corner.
The preliminary introductions are completed with business-like efficiency.  Now we prepare for the actioin to start.  Bong ....the bells signals the start of this rumble- ROUND ONE.
Maria wastes no time in bringing her offense into play.  She strikes out with douible jabs that graze the face of  her brunette rival.  Enza seems unconcerned about this assault, retreating straight back from her advancing enemy.

MARIA CRISTINA IS ON THE ATTACK AGAINST HER DEFENSIVE PREY IN THE OPENING STANZA.

This early assault excites the hometown fans.  They are quick to encourage her for this display of aggressioin.  Throughout the remainder of the period, Maria is completely dominant.  It seems from this initial foray that it will be "La Prof" who gets taught a lesson.  Ms. Marzilli looks like a reluctant sparring partner instead of an experienced adversary.  While shuffling backward the former champion displays little of the artillery she is known to possess.  Youth has definitely triumphed in this opening session.
Between rounds the corner of Ms. Marzilli look to be encouiraging her to get into this fight.  She can't let this younger, less-experience fighter abuse her like she did in the first.  The bell sounds for ROUND TWO.  This time, Enaza blocks and deflects the initial jabs of her assailant.  Her left jabs retaliate upon the face of the Napolese babe.  Although Maria continues to be the aggressor, her offensive volleys are far less effective.  She has to expend greater energy to keep the pressure on her resurgent foe.  Enza isn't throwing nearly as many punches as her assailant, but her connection percentage is higher.  At different times in round two, Ms. Caputo motions to her enemy to stop retreating and fight.  For every attack by the hometown fighter the audience explodes with clapping and shouts of encouragement.  It is pretty certain, that their favorite boxer has chalked up another round on the scorecard of the judges.  Can Maria keep up this demanding pace throughouit the remainder of the fight.  Sitting in her corner between rouinds two and three she appears to be breathing heavily.
Round three starts at a more conservative pace than the two earlier rounds.  Maria is still leading the offensive charge, but she exposes herself to some shocking couinters from "La Prof" who appears to be more focused on the fight than earlier.  The exchange rate btween the lady warriors is relatively even but the crowd wouild make you think that Maria is wiping the canvas with her older rival.  After retreating before her assailant for most ofr the third round Ms. Marzilli coonects with her most telling punch of the fight so far near the end of the stanza.

ENZA PLANTS A SOLID LEFT JAB TO THE CHIN OF HER ENEMY IN THE FINAL SECONDS OF ROUND THREE.

There isn't enough time left in the period for Enza to follow up on her first meaningful connection in the match.  The round ends with the face of Ms. Caputo reddened by that stinging left jab. Although it was a closer rounds, in my view, Maria did enough to eek out an edge in round three.  If so, she may be scoring a shutout against the less assertive veteran.  Both corners work efficently at rejuvinating their charges as we go into the middle round of the fight.  The bell clangs for ROUND FOUR .  Opening lead jabs are fired off by the opposing fighters.  "La Prof's" jab strikes the nose of  her target.  Maria's lead is short of it's mark as the damsels circle on another near center ring.  Most of the fireworks expended are left jabs.  Enza's strikes are more numerous and land with greater regularity.  Maria ix caught on seeral ocassions charging toward her rival withoiut a lead poke.  Her elder enemy takes advantage of these scoring opportunities to repeatedlly lambast her attacker with stronger counter punches hooks and right crosses that hit the body and head.  The fourth period is without question the best round yet for the lady from Bondeno.  She is capiitalizing on the mistakes her enemy is making .  While Enza appears calm , breathing regularly; Ms. Caputo looks tired and winded.  Coming out for the FIFTH ROUND the hometown gal comes out with gusto. She firest off a flurry of lefts and rights most of which do not reach their target.  Her foe is content to dodge and parry while she looks for an opening to couinter attack.  That opening comes at about the 30-second mark in the fifth.  When Maria brings her errant left glove back low, "La Prof" comes over the top of the lowered limb with a jackhammer double right combination that jolts the head of her rival.  For the first time in this fight, Ms. Caputo is staggered.  There is a stunned groan from the fans who  are taken aback by this turn of events.  From that point until the end of the round, Maria goes on the retreat while her older foe presses her attack.  Enza doesn't land another significant followup this round, but she definitely is controlling the action with authority.  ms. Caputo looks concerned and weary as she returns to the blue corner for a much needed reprieve.
ROUND SIX begins at a much slower pace.  It seems as though both women are seeking to conserve their reserves for a final round to come.

STARTING THE SIXTH WITH A DANCE-LIKE EVOLUTION THAT CAUSES THE PATRONS TO REBEL.

The tepid pace of round six seems to aggitate the fans who start to vocalize their disapproval.  The audience wants to continue to watch actiions like they appreciated earlier in the match.  Responding to the crowds request the homey moves to the attack.

MARIA FIRED OFF THE SPARK THAT REIGNITED HOSTILITIES IN ROUND SIX AFTER A SLOW START.

Awakened by a stunning right cross, "La Prof" responded with a shocker of her own.

DON'T  THINK YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH THAT -  ENZA RETURNS FIRE WITH THIS RIGHT CROSS IN ROUND SIX.

The round that started like a waltz turned into arguably the most exciting round of the match.  Both sweaty warriors returned to their respective corners bruised and winded.  Would they have anything left for the closing round?  ROUND SEVEN started with the traditional glove tap.  Early volleys of red versus black bullets filled the air between them as each glamboxer put forth their last ounce of energy to capture the last round in this gallant struggle. Early on in this session it became clear that Ms. Marzilli had saved her best for last.  She battered her prey with a withering barrage of punches.

ENZA LATHERED HER FOE'S HEAD AND BODY WITH INTENSITY TO CLAIM CONTROL OF ROUND SEVEN.

The last round was most decisively in favor of the beauty from Bondeno.  The audience stomped and hollered with delight as the two fighters embraced before heading to their corner team for a drink or water and words of encouiragement from their team.  The decisiion was proclaimed by the ring announcer to an audience who generally agreed with the outcome of this evenly contested rumble.

"lLadies and Gentlemen, the unanimous decision for tonight's featured standout is .....ENZA "LA PROF" MARZILLI !"

MARIA RAISES THE HAND OF HER CONQUEROR IN A DISPLAY OF GOOD SPORTMANSHIP AND RESPECT.
