Just an interesting photo:

A European traveler from the late 1800's, left this Vampire Kit behind.

Just something I found interesting. And it sort of pertains to what we all do or discuss.

It came from a site that posts old or antique photos. Sometimes it's a photo of an antique, sometimes an antique photo.

The doctors tools they post are equally interesting, and slightly scarey.

That is absolutely fascinating!! I truly wish that I could locate a photo of Mercy Lena Brown, or at least one of her family members... and a photo of Nellie Vaughn as well, and Bathsheba Sherman.

Not much luck on Nellie Vaughn. However, my wife's mothers family are Vaughns from New England. Never thought about it. Wouldn't that be a hoot.

Thank you so much for searching the photos Cullen, your efforts are much appreciated. *shamr* Unfortunately these are not the ladies in question, although they are reasonable facsimiles. Sadly there seem to be no known existing photographs of Mercy Brown, nor of her parents. Mercy's mother was Mary Eliza Brown, who died at the age of 36 in December of 1883.

The photo of the farmhouse is indeed the same one located in Harrisville, Rhode Island, that the Perron family lived in throughout the 1970's, until 1980. The identity of the young woman in the photo who is wearing a surgical mask is unknown. However, this photo is believed to have been taken in the mid-1880's, and Bathsheba Thayer Sherman Green passed away shortly after suffering a stroke in 1885. She was 74 years old at the time, and the mystery woman in the photo appears much too young to have possibly been Bathsheba. There are a couple of other photos that some people believe to be of Bathsheba, although I have not as yet heard of them being verified.

Good luck with your search for Nellie Louise Vaughn, who died of pneumonia in March of 1889. Her only connection with the vampire legends is that she was apparently mistaken for Mercy Lena Brown, by vampire hunting teenagers in 1967... and also the fact that her headstone inscription read: "I am waiting and watching for you." In 1977, there was an elderly gentleman living in West Greenwich who actually remembered Nellie in life, because she was a fellow church parishioner. And he adamantly stated that there was certainly no vampire connotation associated with her her at the time. In fact, there was none until nearly 80 years after her death.

That would be awesome, if you found you are actually related to her Cullen! Her father was a blacksmith by trade, and the Vaughn family lived on Robin Hollow Road in West Greenwich, RI.
