Painting - Alpha Channel

Hi.
I watched a tutorial on how to make things not so shiny when painting a car for rFactor but it doesn't work for me. 
I'm using PSP 7 and the guy in the video was using Photoshop.  I saved the file as a psd and converted it to dds using the converter and it said it worked.  I could view it in the converter preview but when I tried to slap it on a car in the game, it wouldn't show...  Just the regular skin was showing so I'm guessing the game couldn't read it?? 
If you have Photoshop and would like to help, I'll send the paint and see if you can make it work (Objective - matt black hood, like the real thing).

I have Photoshop so email the paint and the link to the tutorial and I will see what I can do. Big learning curve with game!

I've got a psd file that I can't open with psp. Can somebody please save it as a psp so I can open it? Thank you!

I think I can do that with Gimp.  Send it my way, I'll give it a try.
