Nice win Doni!

I was ever so close to the top of the podium.  Shredded my left rear tire with 1/2 lap remaining and managed to limp around to the finish line ... but not before Doni got by to take over the lead.  Was quite a race though!  🙂

Well...  I'm certainly the Lucky Boy.  Poor Trae had this one in his pocket with all of two miles to go when...  Geeezzz...

BTW, sorry for the late filing.  I've been very busy of late co-ordinating things for my younger lad to move out to attend Ryerson U in downtown Toronto.  My!  What a headache!

I was more concerned with fuel consumption at this round than anything else.  Pre-race trials indicated that even with a full fill on the stop mid-race, there wouldn't be much left in the tank after 35 laps.  And that's how it worked out.  Just 3.2 USG left at the finish.  By my figuring, that's not even enough for three laps.

Our pace car driver needs a little swat up the side of the head.  What was that business down in the Loop?  LOL!  I didn't do a test start earlier in the day and did not recall such antics from last season's race.  I was a bit surprised to vault into the lead off the start but it wasn't long before Ziggy motored by and then Trae shortly after with a perfect setup to gun me down as we headed for the Loop.  Nothing to do but yield.  Sorry to see that Ziggy fell off in the Loop a bit later to ruin his day.  Going great guns til then.  Trae ducked in for service and I decided to do one more lap before calling in.  I had enough fuel to manage that extra tour but still took a full load.  As well, I decided to take rear tyres.  Yes, I know, I never do that but I figured if fuel was a close thing, rubber would likely be as well.  I must say that Volzie was really sharp as I exited the pits and gave me room for a clean path out.  Thanks, amigo.  And again later in the lap for wave-by.  Much appreciated.  From the gap that Trae had after the stops, I could only conclude that he didn't take tyres.  Hmmm...

After the stop, I expected to see that gap between Trae and I be reduced steadily but no.  It was around 29-30 seconds and only reduced by a fraction for many a lap.  I was not expecting him to do so well at that stage and my chances of catching him were looking rather dim.  Only in the last handful of laps did it become apparent that he was slowing and dramatically, too.  For sure, he was in tyre management mode going only as fast as needed to stay in the lead and make the S/F line with just enough in hand.  Starting the last lap, I could clearly see Trae up ahead and I thought, 'By gum!  I just might be able to catch him after all!'  Comes the top of the hill to complete the Esses and...  What's this?  Plumes of blue rubber smoke!  NO!  I just caught sight of Trae's Challenger looping to the right as I started the run down to the Loop.  OH, MAN!  What a heart-breaker!

My front tyres were in the red with two dots left and the rears with 3 yellow dots at the flag.

Next year's race...  34 laps.

;)
