Did anyone else think that Vegeta acted a bit weird in the first Brolli movie? Just when he totally freaks out about Brolli's power... I get that he's more worried because he's actually heard about the Super Saiyan legend, but everytime I watch that movie and see him refusing to fight because he's so afraid (okay, so he does finally get enough courage near the end) it makes me cringe... it doesn't seem like Vegeta!

I know he was totally demoralised when fighting Frieza, but that seemed different, like there was more reason to be scared then. In Brolli, I suppose I would have liked him to have at least tried fighting Brolli a little more first before he gave up.

I've always looked at it as this would be the equivalent of finding out your boogieman from childhood was actually real - and out to kill you.

Of course, by this time, there are several other 'Legendaries' (which he is also) so I don't think this really justifies Vegeta's OOC'ness.

And it's one of the reasons I don't care for the movie at all.

Seriously...Piccolo is the one to try to shake him out of it? *where's the crossed arms and shaking head icon?*

Call me crazy, but it wasn't OOC for him at all. It wasn't really until the Majin Buu saga that Vegeta actually showed he had a backbone.

Disagree. He showed a "backbone" during the battles against the androids and Cell - actually, he tried all the time to proof he was the best and made his stupidest mistakes because of that. Not mentioning that he practically leaded the Z senshi against Freeza and King Cold´s troop before Trunks´ arrival, even knowing they had no chance. He only freaked out in front of Freeza... and at this point, his sanity was on edge, he had awaited so much for the moment of defeating him just to loose all hope, so that makes sense.

I always had the strong feeling that whoever wrote the movies didn´t like Vegeta that much. Most movies he doesn´t appear or talks much, just comes as "hey, hey, I´m here" - like in the second Kooler movie, or the Tapion one (since Tapion was at CC Vegeta supposed to have appeared more, but I read he only made a cameo to protest against the destruction of his house and get his butt kicked). The exceptions are the fusion movie and the Tarble one (and once again, he doesn´t save Bulma, leaving that for other to do <_< :bitter sigh: at least he carried Trunks on his back)

So I´m not surprised. Never wanted to see Brolli first movie exactly because I knew that Vegeta was OOC. Whoever wrote the script of this movie obviously was biased and wanted to make him look ridiculous. The Bird Studios didn´t cut Piccolo off from almost all DBGT because the director of the serie hated him? That happens, unluckily.

I think it was because he was confronted by the true legendary SS. And think about it, A Saiyan shows up and says "hey! some of us are alive now come be our king!" so Veggie takes off to rule, then finds out it was a trick and hes now facing an enraged SS that makes all of the other Saiyans look like limp noodles. And after trying so hard to be the strongest and greatest, I'd think I would want to just give up too.

Though the reason I hated this movie was because it seemed so... hey, lets get some sells I don't care how good it is.

Specially hate how Goku defeats Brolli. All the Saiyans are beating on Brolli and get their butts kicked, but then they give over a little of their power and Goku can do that thing he does and kicks butt? I could never figure out the math on that one.

Off note: I'm pretty sure that in one of Akira's interviews he admits that Vegeta was his least favorite char. I could be wrong though.

*gasps* Akira said Vegeta was his least favourite?!? Nooo! Vegeta's the best!

Well, I'm glad others agree that he seemed OOC; I was going to write that yesterday, but decided against it because I tend to shy away from labelling anything OOC... but yeah, I think Vegeta was totally OOC in that Brolli movie. Like Macha said, he was already a legendary himself. What I didn't like was that there was suddenly another 'legendary' legend that somehow elevated Brolli to a level higher than the average Super Saiyan, which seems rediculous because he wasn't SS2 or anything. Out of nowhere we get this introduction of Super Saiyan heirarchy which seems silly; I had always thought Vegeta and Goku were the legendaries (not just 'average' Super Saiayns).

And Goku beating Brolli... *sigh* I'm with you on that, Cyberbat. And then Brolli miraculously manages to piece together his blown up body and crawl into a spaceship so that he can get to Earth and remain frozen in some sort of ice crystal for 7 years so the next Brolli movie can make 'sense'. *shakes head*

I agree with Silver Lady, Vegeta definitely showed some backbone earlier on in the series. Even just plotting against Frieza took some serious backbone, and when he did leave the battlefield (thinking of the time he agrees to help Goku fight the Ginyu force and then flies off) he had more reason behind it, as in 'I'm evil and don't care about you, and want to go find the dragonballs for myself' kind of thing.

I think all the movies are a little dissapointing. They could have been inserted into the usual timeline better, and the plots could have made a little more sense. So I just see them as entertainment rather than anything serious, and I did love the introduction of Tarble and Gure.

Confidence really isn't a substitute for backbone, most of these opponents he showed backbone against Vegeta was actually reasonably close to in powerlevel. He avoided Frieza like a rash on Namek until he thought he had become the legendary super saiyan, not to mention he had only recently learned the ability to sense powerlevels without the aid of a scouter. So the accuracy of said skill would have left much to be desired. Just as an example.

Don't get me wrong, I like Vegeta, but the prince didn't discover that thing called courage until he had his own family to speak of, IMO.

I've always thought that, too. It's strange that there are not many fanfics about how Vegeta acts in the Brolli movie. Then again, no one ever brings up that time he tried to flee the scene when Piccolo was fighting Frieza either. I love Vegeta in the Brolli movie, but it is really weird see him act so different. Then again, he was raised to idolize "The Legendary Super-Saiyajin" so seeing it in the actual flesh bearing down on him probably messed up his head pretty badly.

There are points to this movie -

1) Goku gaining energy for attacking other than the spirit bomb

2) Obvious use of telepathy

3) Plot holes/devices to use for fanfiction

Other than that? It's really difficult for me to like that movie.

I still like my explanation of why Vegeta acted so competely OOC. :D And as usual, it involves sex. (If you are wondering, you have to read my NC-17 yaoi story Challenge

Let's distinguish between arrogance and courage, here. Vegeta never ran from fights because he always thought he was stronger than everybody else. He was always pragmatic when it came to people he knew were stronger than him. I'm with Dean on this one.

I believe that's the only fanfic I've read that covered Vegeta's reaction toward Brolli. And I just read that story again yesterday because I love it so very much.
