After I promised about two months ago to get a copy of the CDC manual to everyone, I have finally made good on that promise! I got back to NY just last night, and dug my manual out from the piles and piles of old Mac manuals I have. This is straight out of when I bought the game back in '95 (damn, I was 11 or something, I think?). Scanned it in today, and took a real long time to get all the pages straightened out, each picture the same size, and to get a reasonably-sized file out of all of it! And, so, here it is:

http://xserve3.21productions.com/~jlaporta/cdcm.zip

It came to about 26 megs, but that is a far cry from what all the scanned-in files took up (151 megs). Sure, it looks a little small if you have your screen set at 1.5 billion x 1 billion...but I think it came out pretty good. If you REALLY need the huge, high-res stuff, just ask me. But I think everyone will be happy.

Awesome! Thanks a lot! Delta Tao knows how to make a manual readable. Hopefully we'll see something similar with RTDC. After seeing what's been done with the in-game DC Handbook I think we can expect some kind of fun documentation.

Does anybody else miss the days of cool game manuals? I feel like they're disappearing. I could always count on a manual to 1. provide entertainment while I anxiously awaited for a game to install and 2. allow me to squeeze out a couple more minutes of the game experience even after I beat the game.

Of course there was always the other thing I could count on: if my game didn't work, at least I had a sweet manual.

I know what you mean, occasionally you find some good ones I can't name any off hand, but I've seen 1 or 2 good ones lately.

The Quake 1 manual was pretty good, but this CDC one is one of the funniest I've seen!

Thanks La Porta!

Well, we have confirmation that they claim that Dick Noel did the Fred Flintstone voice. I wonder if, since Joe Williams wrote the manual, it would do any good to get a confirmation on this from him.

You should check out the manual for Shadow of the Colossus. It's aligned so the pages turn vertically, and there's only one sentence of text per page. Within five minutes, you've learned how to play AND have an accurate perception of how intimidating the journey ahead will be.

Nowadays, though, most console games focus on having involved tutorials. I always think it's cool when, instead of just giving you text on a screen, they're able to put you in a fully-immersed environment that just happens to require you to perform every maneuver your character is capable of.

yeah the shadow manual is pretty great, I think it was Katamari, or Gitaroo Man that had a cool manual also.
