You're right Dude, it is pretty good. And the weird thing is, I vividly remember the commercials for this, "... the Frighteners, directed by Peter Jackson!"

"Hah? WTF is Peter Jackson?!" I thought. Little did I know,

My friends and I watched this over and over in 9th grade. Michael J. Fox was such a hottie.

I remember seeing part of this movie the first time on broadcast and I had to leave so I went and bought the video just to see the whole thing. I vaguely remember the pre-marketing but this almost went straight to video, which after viewing surprised me. There seemed to be enough of a plot and interesting characters and clever dialog to have it do better than it did.

Maybe it was a release date issue or something.

Possible Spoiler Alert:

I gotta say, the first time I watched this, I really didn't guess who was really involved in the original murders until extremely close to the reveal.

I too, was surprised that I liked it, when it came out. True, I watched it when it came to video (I thought it was going to be crap, so I didn't watch it in theaters), and was pleasantly surprised. Twice now.
