Oh dear, I am sure there will be a lot of unhappy people on board.

It is a very narrow channel and she is a big ship.  So near and yet so far.

Welcome back. Hope it was a good cruise in spite of missing St. Petersburg.

Welcome home.

A shame about missing St Petersburg, I hope you did not have not have a trip booked that you have had to pay for but not take.

Thankyou for the stalk. We were woken at 06.00 on 1&2nd July to be told the port authorities would not let us in, as the wind at 53 knots was not ‘ambient ‘ for our ship to turn in the Channel. We had actually booked tours with Celebrity, as I wanted a different tour from the one we did 3 years ago. Our money was refunded by the evening of day 2. They took my roubles as part payment of ourOBA, which did surprise me. We also had port fees refunded a couple of days later.
I think Celebrity should have given Future Cruise Certificates out, as many people now will not sail with them again.
The ship’s internet was far too expensive, so I just had to make do with my 90 free. Elite minutes and 4G on shore and of course we weren’t on shore in St Pete, so no internet either for 2 days.

Wow missing St Petersburg is a disaster. Visiting that is probably the primary reason I would take a Baltic cruise. I wonder how many ships do miss it for the same reason. Presumably Celebrity can claim it was not their fault they were not allowed in ?

We were told by the Captain that a pilot came on board 3 am, 3 pm and 3 am on the 2 nd day, when I saw us passing a buoy, so certainly an attempt was made.
Unfortunately, I found out that Azamara Journey was allowed in on that 2 nd day.
We were told that we were too big for the channel, due to the wind speed, which was apparently 53 knots. There were a few white horses on the sea, but we didn’t feel any Rock’ n Roll. Someone found a picture of that channel on Google.
There was far more movement when we passed the tip of the Jutland peninsular, in fact the production show was postponed until the following night.
