Posted by Taylor Hicks on September 19, 2012 at 12:00pm
As a testament to his musical talent and showmanship, “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks will continue to bring the roadhouse to the Las Vegas Strip with a year-long extension performing at Bally’s Las Vegas through 2013, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 17. Hicks is the first “American Idol” winner to secure a long-term residency in Las Vegas and is quickly becoming one of the most popular acts in the city. Hicks will have an exclusive commitment to Caesars Entertainment, taking his talents to other Caesars properties across the country throughout the year with specific dates and locations to be announced at a later date.
“It’s an honor to follow in the footsteps of the legends who have headlined in Las Vegas over the years,” Hicks said. “I’m thrilled to extend my relationship with Caesars Entertainment so that I can continue to entertain fans not only in Las Vegas but nationwide.”
“Taylor was enormously successful in his first headlining engagement here at Bally’s this summer,” said David Hoenemeyer, president of Bally’s Las Vegas. “Locals, as well as tourists from around the nation flock to see him perform on the Vegas Strip, and we look forward to continued success both here in Las Vegas and at some of our other properties.”
Hicks will perform nightly in The Indigo at 7 p.m. Oct. 17-Nov. 12, and Dec. 3-16, with 2013 performances to be announced at a later date. The show will be dark Friday and Tuesday. Ticket prices are $39.99 and $69.99, which includes a meet and greet with Hicks. Additional service fees apply. Ticket sales to the public begin Monday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. and are available by calling (888) 746-7784 or (702) 777-7776, in person at the Bally’s Box Office (3645 Las Vegas Blvd South) and online at www.ballyslasvegas.com. Members of Caesars Entertainment’s Total Rewards program will have access to an exclusive pre-sale beginning Friday, Sep. 21 at 10 a.m.
Taylor Hicks is one of the most beloved “American Idol” winners of all-time. His residency will serve a homecoming of sorts, as Las Vegas is where Hicks’ journey to fame began. He was in New Orleans the night before Hurricane Katrina. With his flight cancelled, he was given a free airplane voucher. Hicks used the ticket to travel to Las Vegas, where coincidentally “American Idol” auditions were being held.
From the start, Taylor’s material on “American Idol” set him apart, with a unique take on southern soul, R & B, country and blues. More than 63 million votes were cast and nearly 37 million viewers tuned in to crown Hicks the Season 5 winner of “American Idol,” making it one of the most watched television events of the decade. The applause hasn’t stopped since he stepped off that stage. Less than three weeks after Hicks’ Idol win, his debut single, “Do I Make You Proud,” entered at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Pop 100 and Single Sales charts. Coinciding with the single release, a cover story named Hicks as People Magazine’s “Hottest Bachelor of the Year.” His self-titled album, “Taylor Hicks” (Arista), debuted #2 on the Billboard 200 and was quickly certified RIAA platinum.
On Broadway, Hicks starred in the hit musical, “Grease” as Teen Angel, and when asked to join the national tour, happily agreed. The 18-month tour connected him with fans across the United States and Canada.
Hicks, who hails from Birmingham, Ala., was destined for the musical stage from an early childhood. Focusing on music full-time, he then became a fixture around the southeast, playing concerts and club dates with visiting stars like James Brown, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Robert Randolph, Keb’ Mo’ and Widespread Panic among others, and released two independent albums “In Your Time” and “Under The Radar.” These albums were compiled and released by Vanguard Records as “Early Works.”

Taylor Hicks settles in for yearlong run in Indigo at Bally’s
Posted September 19, 2012 • 9:00 a.m.
This finding-a-niche-in-Las-Vegas approach seems to be working well for Taylor Hicks.
Formally and finally announced this morning is Hicks’ return to Indigo Lounge at Bally’s, the venue of his well-received summer stint and entry point to a Strip residency. In what is specified as a yearlong commitment, Hicks is back Oct. 17-Nov. 12 and Dec. 3-16, with dates next year to be announced.
Ticket prices are unchanged from Hicks’ appearances over the summer, $39.99 and $69.99 (absent fees). Tickets are on sale Monday at 10 a.m. by calling (888) 746-7784 or (702) 777-7776. Or hit the Bally’s website. Hicks’ show is staged Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays (dark Tuesdays and Fridays).
Hicks says he hopes to reunite his roaring band Soul Patrol, which rocked a venue that doubles as a fairly traditional Las Vegas lounge where seats are not set out and black curtains are drawn for Hicks.
“We’re gunning for the whole band to be back,” Hicks said in a phone interview Tuesday. “We’re obviously going to work diligently on the production of the show. We’re in the process of scaling up the production with more video content.” Of the roadhouse atmosphere Hicks and his five-piece band established in his first run at Bally’s, Hicks laughed and said, “We’re not going to have peanuts on the floor, at least not yet, and you can subtract the roadhouse brawls.”
Hicks is billed as the only “American Idol” champ to secure a residency on the Strip. He won Season 5 of the show, defeating Katharine McPhee in the finals. He swiftly became immersed in the scene in Las Vegas and was frequently spotted watching performances on and off the Strip.
“I love the atmosphere in Las Vegas,” he said. “Everyone, to a certain degree, is a connoisseur of live entertainment, and I share the passion everyone has for live entertainment. I want to keep that idea alive as much as possible.”
Caesars Entertainment says it plans to book Hicks in venues at its resorts across the country. Hicks performed a set of dates at Harrah’s in Reno soon after he ended his original run at Bally’s last month.
“Taylor was enormously successful in his first headlining engagement here at Bally’s this summer,” David Hoenemeyer, president of Bally’s Las Vegas, said in a statement. “Locals as well as tourists from around the nation flock to see him perform on the Strip, and we look forward to continued success here in Las Vegas and at some of our other properties.”

Give Caesars Entertainment for making a good call this week. It’s inked a one-year residency deal with American Idol winner Taylor Hicks to return to Bally’s, starting Oct. 17. Prices will still begin at a wallet-friendly $40/seat and, in light of the amount and quality of a show
Hicks puts on, that’s an incredibly good value for your money. Even some of the most rinky-dink offerings at V Theater start higher than that! Although I’m sure another casino may try to make lightning strike twice, I don’t think the Idol-to-Vegas route will become a heavily traveled one. After all, how many winners can one even name? The latest, Phillip Phillips, isn’t even old enough to drink or gamble in Nevada and his fanbase doesn’t appear to have been long out of diapers.

Taylor Hicks: ‘I plan to make Las Vegas proud’ with new Bally’s deal
By Robin Leach (contact)
Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 | 2:32 p.m.
Even when singer Taylor Hicks was at the lowest point of his life stripping and waxing nursing home floors, he never stopped believing that his showbiz break would eventually happen. Even when Taylor’s flight home from New Orleans was canceled because of Hurricane Katrina, he never stopped believing, and instead he used his free flight voucher and traveled to Las Vegas for an “American Idol” audition.
“There was never any doubt in my mind. I was convinced that one day I would make it happen. It never was an if; it was always a when,” he told me as Bally’s today officially confirmed our earlier Vegas DeLuxe reports that he would be re-signing to stay on the Strip.
One of the most beloved “American Idol” winners of all time will now continue to bring the roadhouse to Bally’s with a yearlong extension through 2013 starting Wednesday, Oct. 17. Taylor is the first “American Idol” winner to secure a long-term residency on the Strip and has quickly become one of the most popular acts in the city. It’s an exclusive commitment to Caesars Entertainment, and he’ll perform at other Caesars properties throughout the year with dates and locations to be announced at a later date.
Here’s our conversation:
Robin Leach: This entire Las Vegas experience for you coming here from the South for the first run at Bally’s had to be mixed. Was there fear mixed in with the excitement of your dream finally coming true?
Taylor Hicks: All I worried about was not failing! Being an entertainer in the South, you obviously dream of Los Angeles, New York, but Las Vegas is such a class all on its own. To be a part of history and to be a part of the entertainment folklore as a headliner is an honor.
Whatever the endeavor as an entertainer and every leap of faith in our world, there is a sense of fear and excitement. Think about it -- following in the footsteps of the great entertainers who have gone before in Las Vegas. The fear still hasn’t gone away, but there is really no other place for an entertainer than Las Vegas.
R.L.: Were your audiences what you expected for the first run of shows?
T.H.: After traveling so much and touring as much as I have, you do kind of understand who your fan is, and it didn’t surprise me. You just have to keep cultivating as many different kinds of fans in Las Vegas as you possibly can.
I think first of all you have to create, you have to obviously reinvent yourself as much as possible. You have to be creative in that aspect. I think doing this residency for me has been one of the reinventions, hopefully of many that I’ll have in a career. People who don’t reinvent themselves are the people from such talent reality TV shows that end up with only those 15 minutes of so-called fame. The people who do reinvent themselves end up being a career artist, and that is what I hope that I can be.
I hoped we’d win a renewal and a year’s extension, but getting here I was completely sold on Las Vegas and wanted to do everything to make that happen. I think being as live as an entertainer that I am, this is the perfect place for me. Las Vegas is the perfect outlet for me to be a showman. The reaction has been so great to what we’ve done at Bally’s. I am blessed and honored to hear those things. … I am very happy that it has been this successful so far, and very blessed.
R.L.: Does this give you an opportunity to do more with the Indigo Lounge?
T.H.: From a progression standpoint, yes, it does. Obviously we want to produce the show as much as you can. You definitely have to make sure that everything is as good as it can be. There’ll be new changes once we get the show back up and running, hopefully as soon as possible. I would be lying if I didn’t say I wanted to add some dancers. Why not have some showgirls?!
R.L.: Have you stopped pinching yourself and finally accepted that this all happened and an amazing journey and dream came true? Or do you still marvel at it?
T.H.: This has put me in such an amazing position, and I still pinch myself. I have a pretty rigorous work ethic about my business and what I feel like I was put on Earth to do, and that is to entertain people. I am pretty intense, and I believe in hard work and that opportunity creates the luck.
In this morning’s official statement, Taylor said: “It’s an honor to follow in the footsteps of the legends who have headlined in Las Vegas over the years. I’m thrilled to extend my relationship with Caesars Entertainment so that I can continue to entertain fans not only in Las Vegas but nationwide.”
Bally’s President David Hoenemeyer added: “Taylor was enormously successful in his first headlining engagement here at Bally’s this summer. Locals as well as tourists from around the nation flocked to see him perform on the Strip, and we look forward to continued success here and at some of our other properties.”
Taylor will perform in the Indigo at 7 p.m. Oct. 17-Nov. 12 and Dec. 3-16, with 2013 performances to be announced at a later date. The show will be dark Tuesdays and Fridays. Ticket are $39.99 and $69.99, which includes a meet-and-greet and go on sale Monday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m.
From the start, Taylor’s material on Season 5 of “American Idol” set him apart, with a unique take on Southern soul, R&B, country and blues. More than 63 million votes were cast and nearly 37 million viewers tuned in to crown him the winner of “American Idol” over Katharine McPhee, making it one of the most watched TV events of the decade. His self-titled album, “Taylor Hicks,” debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 and was quickly certified platinum.
Taylor and I agreed to have his first celebration lunch together when he arrives back here for the new residency. He summed up: “It’s still hard to believe and harder to accept we have come so far so fast with Las Vegas. My promise is to work even harder to make it even more successful and rewarding for the fans. I plan to make Las Vegas proud and will work hard to prove it.”

September 19, 2012 by Masterclass Lady
First things first! Look at Taylor’s relaxed jaw and circular mouth in the above picture. Ah – a vocal teacher’s dream.
But I digress.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Taylor Hicks has been an exceptionally strong draw during his tenure in Las Vegas.
In fact, his contract with Ballys Las Vegas has been extended through 2013. This is what David Hoenemeyer, president of Bally’s Las Vegas had to say:
“Taylor was enormously successful in his first headlining engagement here at Bally’s this summer,” said Hoenemeyer. “Locals as well as tourists from around the nation flock to see him perform on the Vegas Strip, and we look forward to continued success both here in Las Vegas and at some of our other properties.”
As many of you know, Taylor was the winner of Season 5 of American Idol. It has been a bit of a topsy-turvy ride for Taylor since the show ended, but his personality, resilience, talent and determination have led him to this extraordinary moment in his career.
These were the very attributes that Taylor exhibited during his American Idol journey and were, ultimately, responsible for his achievement of the winning title.
And now Taylor is the first Idol alumnus to secure a long-term association with Las Vegas and I am sure that this will open up many enormous performing opportunities for him in the future.
Nice to see that good things happen to good people. He is a wonderful person, passionate about his music and respectful of the fans – The Soul Patrol – who have catapulted him to this level of success.
Congratulations Taylor! Let’s show some Taylor love in the comments section, y’all!

"American Idol" winner Taylor Hicks was on the telephone - and cloud nine - Friday after signing a one-year extension at Bally's.
The new contract starts Oct. 17, and, when asked for the end date, he didn't miss a beat.
"Hopefully infinity! I'm truly honored to be part the entertainment landscape of Las Vegas," said Hicks, who was packing the 240-seat Indigo Lounge during his June 30 to Aug. 30 Las Vegas debut as a headliner.
He has been blown away by "how supportive the entertainment community has been."
Three weeks ago the blues and soul singer was a featured entertainer at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., and hung out with Clint Eastwood.
"It's been quite a month," said Hicks, who won Season 5 of "American Idol" on May 24, 2006, seven months after his audition in Las Vegas.

For most of his music career, Taylor Hicks has been on the road. Now, audiences are coming to him.
The Hoover native and former “American Idol” winner recently signed a yearlong extension of his contract at Bally’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. Forty summer shows have transformed into 260, as Hicks continues his run in the hotel’s Indigo Lounge.
He’s booked for five two-hour shows per week, with off days on Tuesdays and Fridays, starting on Oct. 17.
“It really allows an entertainer to dig into a production and get a sense of the room,” says Hicks, 35, a soul-pop singer. “It’s a really comfortable place to be.”
He’s proud of his status as the only “Idol” winner to settle down on the Strip. His set lists have changed a bit this year, with the introduction of Frank Sinatra’s Rat-Pack classic, “That’s Life” and a couple of Elvis Presley classics, “In the Ghetto” and “Viva Las Vegas.”
The biggest switch for Hicks, however, is staying put. No need for a tour bus, no worries about flight schedules. No suitcase to open and close.
“The crowd is on tour in Las Vegas,” Hicks says. “The artist is not on tour. The crowd changes nightly, and it’s all kinds of people, from conventions to bachelorettes.”
His backing musicians, led by Jamie McLean, also have transformed from road warrior status. They’re a house band now, adding blues-driven depth, supporting Hicks on signature songs and upping the country-soul vibe on “Country Living,” written by McLean.
At first, Hicks expected to razzle-dazzle the crowds with a dose of old-school Vegas glitz. Instead, he’s finding that a roadhouse approach works best -- with an earthier tone, a honky-tonk feel and lots of harmonica and guitar.
“The goal is to be able to keep reinventing yourself,” he says. “I’m not as rhinestone-laden as I was for Teen Angel (in 'Grease!'). But the sky’s the limit in Vegas, as far as creativity is concerned.”
Tickets for Hicks’ next round of shows are $39.99 and $69.99, available at 888-746-7784 or the Bally's website.
One final note for fans in the Soul Patrol: Hicks says the temptations of Sin City haven’t diverted him from his next record. In his off-hours, he’s still searching for songs and working on his own.
“I definitely think good things are coming from this,” Hicks says.

This agreement marks the first time in history an American Idol has secured a long term residency in Las Vegas, where he began performing this past June.
Previous to his engagement with Bally’s, Hicks - who was dubbed People Magazine’s “Hottest Bachelor of the Year” in 2006, topped Billboard’s Hot 100 with his debut single “Do I Make You Proud” as well as commanding the #2 slot on the Billboard Top 200 with his self-titled platinum selling album. You may have also seen Hicks starring in the Broadway tour of Grease in 2008 playing the character “Teen Angel”.
We wish Taylor a happy Birthday and can’t wait to see him light up Vegas well into 2013!

Taylor Hicks is Playing The Indigo Lounge at Bally's Las Vegas
You might know the name from the American Idol television show that seems to capture everyone’s attention. Since I don’t watch the show I frankly had very little reason to go in and see one of its winners in a showroom in Las Vegas.
I was wrong. I am wrong. Taylor Hicks might have won a television show and been the darling of anyone with a phone and the need to vote but the truth is this guy has some serious pipes. He can work a room and he has that presence that makes you wish you were best friends so that you could have beers together in the backyard while having barbecue.
What can you expect from Taylor Hicks in Las Vegas:
Somehow the influence of the blues, country and classic rock that make up the way Taylor Hicks delivers his material works better than I would have thought in Las Vegas. It truly feels like you’re in a roadhouse and the band went on stage and decided to play until the beer ran out. Taylor Hicks belts out tune after tune with such a passion that I almost felt like I should race to the front of the room just to stand up and high five him after each song.
I should explain that depending on the crowd it feels like Taylor Hicks is playing to an empty house simply because the population is just not getting up and giving back enough for my taste. If a musician is up there blasting away and giving it all I feel he or she should hear you and see you. The crowd eventually got up and was willing to show some appreciation but he is delivering a show that is worthy of you being on your feet for the entire hour and a half.
Taylor Hicks plays with the energy of a young musician who is hungry with the presence of a veteran performer. You’ll like that he is playing the Indigo Lounge where you get a quaint and intimate feel for the music.

Before he was the season five winner of American Idol, a Broadway star (as Teen Angel in Grease) and a chart-topping pop singer (2006’s “Do I Make You Proud”), Taylor Hicks was a soul man from the Deep South. While he never exactly left those roots behind, it’s possible some fans attending his intimate performances at Bally’s might expect to see a watered-down, reality show-ready Hicks. Fear not.
Hicks, 36, brings the funk, the soul and everything else over the course of a gritty, sweaty 90-minute show that moves between soul-pop originals (“The Deal,” “Maybe You Should” and “19”) and covers familiar to Idol fans—The Doobie Brothers’ “Takin’ it to the Streets” and Stevie Wonder’s “Living for the City,” to name two.
Backed by a five-piece band, Hicks digs deep into a reading of “Seven Mile Breakdown,” allowing each of the players (and himself on harmonica) to stretch out, and wears his influences proudly, quoting from Van Morrison and Bruce Hornsby. By the time “Viva Las Vegas” closes the energetic set, it’s possible to see a bit of the King in Hicks. He may not be Elvis Presley, but like his Southern counterpart, he’s taking care of business, and it’s a joy to watch.
Just scored tix 2 c Taylor Hicks tonight... leaves less time 4 me 2 prepare 4 @mattgoss, but perfection is better left simply.
Am at ballys seeing Taylor hicks. it was a fun show the man can sing ?

Before he sang "Doctor My Eyes " , he said it was his favorite Jackson Brown song and that someone asked him six hours before to play it -- he may have been exaggerating a bit, but the song was not yet ready for prime time -- but still good -- and perfect for Taylor, when they reherse more :-)

a.One of the strips favorite entertainers.
b. He didn't bring his harmonica along.
c. Kat's co-host was not in Vegas during the summer, so she missed Taylor . By August , everyone was talking about Taylor .............a great show.
d. Wayne Newton : the co-host showed the article to Wayne where Taylor talked about his respect and admiration for Newton. Taylor says Wayne Newton could really sing and sell a song at 15 yr. old. Taylor studied how Newton did it. Was there any one else who could sell a love song at such a young age.....reflection of voice.
e. There is a difference between a singer and an entertainer. Taylor sees himself as an entertainer rather then a singer. It is a visual thing . You have to be a live performer ; visual . There are not too many of them anymore. Most shows are pre recorded and have bells and whistle to pump up the show.
f. Idol made it possible for Taylor to sing and show some of his performing talent .
g. Taylor really appreciates Las Vegas and submerged himself in the sub-culture of Vegas. Taylor was always on the road as a kid and didn't get to sit in with bands. Now , on vacations , he sits in whenever he can . Taylor knew that Vegas would give him the opportunity to meld with other bands . It is a competitive field though and he has to be careful as everyone is trying to sell tickets to their own show.
h. The musicality of Taylor's show is paramount. He comes from a super organic place with his music.
i. The Indigo Lounge is not easy to rush the stage: security !!!
j. Origin of Soul Patrol: Taylor says that when on Idol , you have to be prepared musically and social media was coming into the forefront. Taylor says Sean, his brother, had a handle on how to promote Taylor in the social media. There was a certain click of fans that Taylor was aware of people calling his fans "The Soul Patrol".. Taylor then transcended that into his live performances and would shout "soul patrol" to egg on the fans. It was a CAMPAIGN SLOGAN . Taylor knew that there was a cliquishness to fan groups........ Taylor wants more active fans then a huge number of fans ............these fans are aggressive and that is necessary.
k. His shows: Every show is different and with a Broadway show everything is the same. Taylor feels that Broadway was a seque for acting in other genres. Was offered 5 different roles , but felt he had to pick the one that would teach him the most. It was a small bit where he could decide how much he liked it and how much more he could do. ( Billy Flynn ......was offered??? )
l. Taylor is looking at roles right now.
m. Taylor plays the Harmonica, organ and guitar and he has a great band : He wanted to make sure his band sounded different then any other band at Vegas. Roadhouse music.
n. The small Indigo Room is a great beginning. He sells out 200 seats and will grow. The intimacy is lost with a big venue. There are about 10/ 12 chairs in the Indigo Room where the person seated there is almost part of the band.
o. Coming back to Vegas in January for a longer stint ...........may do 6 nights rather then 5 nights.
p. When he is not in Vegas , he will be doing Caesar's casinos in other places. Taylor is looking forward to being in Tahoe !!!!
Saw @taylorhicks 2night & it was absolutely inspired & amazing!! See this band!!! Real music...wow!

American Idol Taylor Hicks
As a teenager Taylor Hicks would sneak out of the house to perform at local bars in Alabama. His secret was safe until one night when his father went to a restaurant Hicks was performing at while he was supposed to be home in bed. After dropping out of college to pursue a music career Hicks struggled until flying to Las Vegas to audition for American Idol. The decision to try out for Idol in Las Vegas would change Hick's life as he would go on to win season five of the hugely popular show. Hicks now performs in residency at Bally's on the Strip and he joins us to talk about his music and success after American Idol.
a. Entertained at his Dad's dentist office
b. Taylor's Dad thought he was Michael Jackson............ at an early age Taylor started to mimic other singers, Ray Charles and Michael . By 14 , Taylor started to be serious ......
c. The first time he was on stage with an audience was in Clantin , AL . He was 5 or 6 : a barn and everyone would come and sit on folding chairs , with people getting up to sing. He was scared to derath , but Taylor , at his Grandfather's encouragement , he got up and sang an
"Alabama" song " Feels So Right ".
d Taylor's parents were supportive . They just let him do what he wanted and hoped for the best. They let him blossom on his own. It worked out.
e. Taylor was all over the map musically at an early age............ Bob Seger, Van Morrison, Ray Charles , Otis Redding , Wayne Newton etc. He would watch them perform as it was the performance that interested Taylor more then the songs themselves. ( visual and auditory ) visually Otis Redding and audibly Ray Charles . Taylor studied music !!!!
f. Went to Auburn . Always an Alabama boy . He dropped out of Auburn to become a starving and tortured artist. Is that necessary: it doesn't hurt because it pulls emotion out of you. Taylor's family plotted their own lives and so did Taylor. Taylor was telling his parents at 13 that he wanted to be famous.
g. Jobs Taylor had: stripping and waxing nursing home floors at night .; he dressed up as an Easter Bunny and other characters when Grandma Jonie was marketing director of the local mall. It made him come out of his shell and become comfortable playing a character.
h. What did Taylor learn during his struggling years: It created tunnel vision. He had to block out every rational thought and just visualize the end result. Never say no to a gig 'cause you never know who will show up. Always be nice to people ; he believes in Karma .
i. Hurricane Katrina : going to wedding in New Orleans . Last taxi out of New Orleans . Got voucher from Southwest Airlines to anywhere . Went to Vegas . Auditioned . The taxi driver went back to New Orleans to save his Grandmother .
j. 5 minutes after Taylor sang "A Change Is Gonna Come " and was sent to Hollywood, he knew he had his break. Sang " Swanee River Rock" where he knew he was a far way from home, brought out the emotion. He cried all the way home.
k. What about all the attention as Taylor moved through Idol weeks. Taylor just hoped that the Fox network in Vegas would send a tape to Birmingham Fox so he could expand his territory in Alabama a little. He finally realized if he identified with his audience , he could work for the rest of his life.
l. Did Taylor think he had to create a persona? He had to stay true to who he was but it is the fans who he is trying to impress. Impressing Hollywood is secondary . Taylor had to use some creativity because he had only his voice ( no guitar or harmonica ).
m. Taylor thinks you have to take every opportunity you can get to become an entertainer. Every TV show, every demo you can show , every talent show , every outlet , you have to pursue.
n. When people leave Bally's or any gig Taylor does , he wants people to leave thinking they made a good decision when they voted for him. What is Taylor's signature piece at Bally's : " That's Life "
o. What is Las Vegas like from Taylor's point of view: The entertainment community is very supportive. The crowd is on tour not the artist. The crowd is moving around and catching many show.
p. What does Taylor want to accomplish? To keep reinventing himself. Do different things to keep the interest level up.

16. November 7, 2012 Below the Belt on Location Interview
Wednesday November 7th - LISTEN LIVE - Musician's Showcase Episode - Actress/Singer Taryn Manning, Loving The Lie, in-studio Jon Kane and an on-location interview with Taylor Hicks
I was in Vegas for a spur of the moment girl's trip last week. My friend and I went to see Taylor on Wednesday night. It was everything that you described. We got there a little late, so tipped the maitre'd and got a bar table with barstools to the side. Great viewing area.
Taylor definitely seems content and loves what he's doing. The "tags", his harmonica playing and Brian Gallagher were highlights.
The most incredible, uplifting show I have been to in a very long while, The band was the best . Great, Great show I wold recommend to anyone. Can't wait to go again.

Favorite moment: Begining to end it was one great moment. The whole group put everything and every feeling into every note and it really came accross.

All of the musicians were top notch. Taylor has a great voice.
Loved, loved, LOVED this show! Taylor Hicks was fantastic and his fellow musicians were so talented. Definitely worth the price. He went from one song to the next displaying his soulful side. He's personable and likeable on stage and the small intimate setting of the Indigo Room added to the atmosphere. I took two friends from Texas and they loved the show as well! Taylor signed CD's after the show, answered questions and posed for pictures with those supporting him by purchasing a $20 CD. Well worth it!

Favorite moment: I literally felt transported in time to an old blues club when he sang "In the Ghetto".

The former American Idol champ returns to Bally’s with his arsenal of roadhouse-style blues and soul intactBy John Katsilometes
Bally’s 7 p.m. Sat.-Mon. & Wed.-Thurs. through Nov. 12, $39.99-$69.99 VIP plus tax and fee. 702.777.7776
Deep into his summerlong run at Indigo at Bally’s, one of Taylor Hicks’ new friends in the Las Vegas entertainment community offered a suggestion: Make Indigo a real roadhouse saloon. Stack some hay bales around the room. Sprinkle crushed peanut shells across the floor. You know, for the authenticity of it all. “We’re not going to have peanuts on the floor, at least not yet,” Hicks says, “and you can subtract the roadhouse brawls.”
The Indigo is once again the haunt to find Hicks in Las Vegas as the season five champion of American Idol started his latest headlining gig Oct. 17 and plays through Nov. 12 and again Dec. 3-16. Additional dates in a yearlong contract with Caesars Entertainment are to be announced. Hicks is the only American Idol champ performing a residency in Las Vegas, and his 2006 victory was remarkable for those he topped en route to the title: Chris Daughtry, Katharine McPhee, Bucky Covington and Kellie Pickler were all contestants the season Hicks was crowned.
Still playing off the series’ popularity, the 36-year-old Hicks performed at Harrah’s in Reno, Nev., over the summer and also made a memorable appearance in Tampa, Fla., at the Republican National Convention, singing “Takin’ It to the Streets” just before Clint Eastwood’s unforgettable empty-chair conversation with an imaginary President Obama. He’s played all across the country, but Hicks has been eager to return to Bally’s. “I love the atmosphere in Vegas,” he says.
Hicks has taken to Las Vegas with uncommon ease. The principal reason is that Las Vegas is a city brimming with great live entertainment, a quality Hicks deeply appreciates. “I’m pretty nostalgic about the history of Las Vegas, when it comes to entertainment, the Rat Pack and Elvis and all of the great entertainers who have played Vegas over the years,” says Hicks, who is particularly fond of Elvis Presley, given the King’s Southern roots (Hicks hails from Birmingham, Ala.). “There’s a great entertainment community in Vegas and some great live entertainment, in my opinion, and it’s important to keep that nostalgia going.”
Boosted by his robust, five-piece Soul Patrol backing band, he blends originals with covers that are alternately bone-rattling and heartfelt. In the mix are Stephen Stills’ “Love the One You’re With,” a version of “That’s Life” (closely associated with Frank Sinatra) and Stevie Wonder’s “Living for the City,” which was a highlight from his run on Idol. Hicks also soars through two Presley classics, “In the Ghetto” and the show-closing “Viva Las Vegas.” A moving moment is the soldier’s ballad, “19,” a Hicks original.
There will be some tweaking to the show that ran for eight weeks over the summer at Bally’s. He talks of expanding the room’s video presentation (a highlight in the summer run was a fired-up taped intro by Stephen Colbert). A new album, to be released next year, is also in the offing.
“We’re going to be playing some new material and using some new musical ideas, especially now that a new record is on the horizon,” he says. “We’ve got some new original material for the record, and new covers we’re working with.”
Hicks is intrigued by the raw energy that emanates from Indigo. “We could do a live record from the Indigo,” he says. “I do like that idea.” Such a recording might be helped by strategic static—in the form of crushed peanuts.

hey just wanted to say your show was great and "george bush" liked it as well lol

They didn't use the Colbert video intro that they used this summer and I was surprised at how much I missed it. My friend commented, saying they should have played it.
....I was in line early, behind a couple from California who hadn't seen Taylor live before but loved him on Idol. I enjoyed chatting with them. I talked to quite a few people as we were waiting and was surprised at how many had come because they'd liked him on Idol, but hadn't seen him live before and didn't know what he'd been doing.
....Maybe You Should. It was, IMO, the best rendition of that song he's ever done - and that's saying something!! I was an absolute puddle by the time it ended and there was a moment of utter silence as the audience shook itself out of the trance and exploded in appreciation. Awesome, awesome performance.
....." And this darling guy from Scotland came over to show me the picture on his cell phone that he'd just had taken with Taylor. He was beyond thrilled. He said, "I never imagined that he could be THAT good. He's fabulous. I'm so lucky I came tonight."

Favorite moment: I CRIED THROUGHOUT THE SONG NINETEEN EVEN THOUGH I KNOW NO ONE IN BATTLE. VERY MOVING.
Posted 11/06/2012 He clarified his win on American Idol as I never believed him to be worthy. I'm sorry but that's the truth. I never voted and if I had, it wouldn't have been him. Harsh I know. I went out of Curiosity and that simply fact that he is indeed a celebrity and I thought it to be awesome to be in the close presence of one. The experience was far better then imagined. I love his ROCKING and his energy and very much so HIS VOICE.

I forgot how powerful his voice was. Love the show. I think he needs a bigger arena. Our ears took awhile to hear again. Tho, it was nice being up close and personal. :-)
Taylor Hicks is awesome at Ballys. Top notch band too...the guitarist is incredible! Great intimate venue too.
28. michel2006 11/10 , 11/11, 11/12 shows
Saturday;s show was completely incredible even though it was so short. Probabably only an hour. John Popper from Blues Traveler joined Taylor on stage and jammed with them on harmonica beginning with 7MB all the way through Running On Empty. He was amazing and when he and Taylor both jammed on harp is was double amazing!!! Wow! Something not to have been missed if you could ever know about it happening in advance.
....On Sat. during the day, I went with my sister and her daughter to the Flamingo where they were having a Gift Redemption Event for Rewards points they had earned all year long. I was wearing my Taylor tour t-shirt. One lady asked me if I had gone to the show and I told her yes, how I had gone the night before and how John Popper came on and the show was incredible. She mentioned she was there at Bally's getting a massage and could here the music from there. She didn't realize it was Taylor until she passed by later on. I said, yeah, I guess they think the blue velvet curtains are going to keep the sound in.

Vegas is Where the Heart is for Taylor Hicks
The roadhouse run will continue. American Idol winner Taylor Hicks has signed a year-long extension to perform at Bally’s Las Vegas through 2013. The soul singer, who starred on Broadway as Teen Angel in the hit musical Grease prior to last summer’s inaugural stint on the Strip, tells us he has a bit of Vegas in his blood, and he’s definitely ready “to follow in the footsteps of legends.”
Describe your show for us. What can fans expect?
The roadhouse hits the Las Vegas Strip. It’s a great combination of country, blues and rockin’ soul. It’s high-energy music at its finest.
Tell us about the video elements of the show.
I have an introduction from Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert as of now. I don’t know if I can top that.
What’s it like to be performing in Las Vegas?
As an entertainer, it’s the greatest gig in the world. To be a part of Vegas history is an honor and a blessing.
Who did you idolize growing up?
Elvis and Ray Charles were the roots of my musical tree.
If you could go back in time to old Vegas and see any performer on the Strip, who would it be?
I would have to say the Rat Pack. What a great musical combination. But as much as I love the Rat Pack, Elvis would have been my favorite Vegas musician to see perform live.
What Vegas show or comedian makes you laugh?
Go get hypnotized by Anthony Cools. If that doesn’t make you laugh, someone needs to check your pulse.
If you won a jackpot, what’s the first thing you would do?
I would put half in the bank and spend half as fast as I could.
Taylor Hicks always puts on a great show. This was the 6th time that I've seen him, and his live shows are the best. He knows how to get the audience going and is a thrill to watch.

Six Strings" -- taylor, of course, Taylorized it and we all LOVED it! He made the comment that he has loved this song for a long time and that it really "resonated" with him -- his word -- and when you listen to the words, you can see why.
Again, each show out of the three we saw as we saw them we thought were "the best ever." My favorite was the second night (Sunday, 12-9), but they were all among the very best. A big difference is that he is talking a LOT more and was pretty funny :-)

MizDelray: @taylorhicks little river band's Wayne Nelson at Taylor's show-rockin' night
RECORD PEOPLE MENTIONED BY DJMORTON ARE FROM BROKEN ARROW RECORDS
I ran into Brian who immediately told me we were in for a treat on Sat night because of the "record people" who were going to be in the audience plus a packed house. They had really been practicing for this show!!. You already know they added the fiddle and the bongos ( guitar ) ..The VIPs were in the front row and during the show I could see them nodding their heads in a very positive way. ....If the "record people" were not impressed, then I don't know what else Taylor could have done. He played the harmonica like crazy..did the chicken picken...and sang his butt off.
We had a couple of Taylor sightings on the street..which was amazing when you realize there are thousands of peole walking around. There were lots of people buying merchandise and having their picture taken with Taylor. It is fun to watch everyones reaction to him and he is always so nice to each and every fan. He must have had quite the schedule..rushing over to the red carpet (CMA) and then back for his own show.
Taylor was fantastic. High energy and soulful performance. Needs a nicer venue. With that said it was very intimate with < 100 seating.

Taylor's performance Saturday night was breathtaking. It's been over a year since I've seen him live and he really does make you lightheaded when you see him come on stage!! His voice was wonderful - full and strong. I can still hear it ringing in my ears.
best song of the night for me was 'Maybe You Should' which I have loved since the first moment I heard it. it should be a huge hit. it should be featured in a movie. maybe one day. and when he sang it Saturday night, it gave me chills. sigh.
Taylor's energy is endless! The band gets tighter with each performance. It's amazing how adaptive and quick Taylor is with his performances. This week-end was no exception!
12. Wayne Nelson of The Little River Band:
“Saw Taylor Hicks at Bally’s last night. Folks…this guy can flat our sing, play harp, and get lost in a song!! He was fabulous to watch and hear. He’s part Cajun, part R&B, part soul, part Joe Cocker, part Stevie. But he’s all Taylor Hicks. He blew me away!! Go see him if you get the chance. Your musical soul will be inspired.”
He also said he hoped he could share a stage with him some day. I love it when real musicians get to find out what Taylor is about.
