Just found this section of the forums ^^ This is awesome! I have been raised Evengelical/Non-denominational and am currently attending a Christian University, believe much the same as you do Christ is the Son of God, "the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him."
Ah! Yeah, I've been to some traditional-type services. The change is sometimes refreshing. Sometimes, I think the newer church movements have forgotten how beautiful liturgy can be.
^^ Agreed. And speaking of Christianity, I noticed somebody around the forums had a really funny signature quote, it was the javascript version of let there be light.
---I found it! Yun Harla's; and god said "glEnable(GL_LIGHTING);"
Edit: I keep going back to my posts and realizing I'm reopening year old posts, again, sorry about this.
I consider myself a highly hopeful, and optimistic agnostic.
Therefore you can't call me a doubter. Logic, IMO.
Google Definition for Clarity.
ag*nos*tic -- a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God.
I've actually migrated to agnosticism over the past couple of years, and sometimes atheism, sometimes pantheism, and pretty much always aligned with Unitarian Universalism. Oh! And something I like to call naturalistic paganism. It's an interesting mix, for sure! The transition was difficult... but I like where I'm at, now, and I'm grateful for it.
Sounds interesting Kildare
Though I know little of those things
Natural paganism
Agnostic...something
I'm going to have to use the google machine and read some on it that is prolly wrong and shouldn't be on the Internet
Hehe anyway 1913 eh
recently had a chat on imgur with an individual about faith, so it's kind of funny I ran into this checking out the CoF forums! I think it's great this is available.
I'm a pretty firm believer in the 'kairos' mindset; if my ancient greek's right, it's the word most often used to describe the idea of 'god's time' or maybe, the idea of time in a nonlinear sense...something has happened, is happening, will happen, etc, all at once. I think as far as religions go, Protestant Christianity is both the most twisted and hopeful. With a loss of liturgy comes an abundance of interpretations and denominations, but through those conflicting opinions we gain glimpses of not just personal truths, but fundamental truth as well.
So to get back to the kairos thing: within Protestantism is that idea of Christ's sacrifice being the once-for-all while still respecting our own individual agency. Grace allows a life of continual renewal in salvation, while still pointing out in various passages that, if we so wish, we absolutely have the ability to turn our backs on all of it. Personally, I think that makes the commitment in the long term that much more meaningful and beautiful.
It also, to me, highlights the inherent longing of mankind for restoration or wholeness. The fulfillment of all cleansing rituals and the newly personalized faith-based state of grace not just allows, but encourages us to be the most excellent humans we can be by forgiving others as we have been forgiven - reflecting that mercy shown to us onto our fellow humans as well.
It's never said to be easy or even successful, but it does provide a different way of living that, at least to me, makes the most logical and intuitive sense.
