the earth is tilted so the Northern Hemispehre gets a more direct hit (summertime) so we warm up, sunspots run in cycles, and guess what so do heat waves.. maybe too simple, but I'm going with it at least until my new shipment of curly lightbulbs show up!

Last year at this time is was 110+ by 11am. It's been in the 90s here, built a warm fire and wearing long sleeves. I may have to paint the west wall of my shop white - it's barn red now. I shot it with a laser last week on Sunday afternoon and the HardiPanel was 180F.

I left my home in Ventura a little while ago, it was typically foggy and cool, the temp was probably 68°F. I drove an hour to my office in the San Fernando Valley where its currently 104°F.

George is it like that most days in summer? No wonder you need good cooling systems and stockpiles of cool beverages!

It's been tough finding seat time in the Mach 1 this year. Seems like every weekend it's:

a) 100 degrees
b) raining
c) car is down for a mod or repair

Temps in the greater southern California area run mid-80s to mid-90s most of the summer. The normal wind pattern is cool air off the Pacific blowing inland and keeping the temps down, but also creating high humidity, which makes 85 feel like 95. Further inland, beyond the mountains, is the Mojave desert where its always hot and normally windy.

When a mass of high pressure air sits on top of southern California it blocks the ocean breezes and the temps soar over 100. Or when a mass of clockwise circulating air sits north or east of southern California the wind pattern shifts and the winds blow off the desert from east to west, that also causes the temps to soar over 100. But those desert winds also set the hill sides on fire.

However, I do not live in southern California, I just make a long commute to Los Angeles everyday for work.

I live here:

where the weather is substantially cooler and moderate. Where a burned-out old lounge lizard like me can sit on the balcony, drink, watch the ladies in their swim suits, and philosophize about life with my grand daughter.
