Six or ten McKee brothers left from county Down in Northern Ireland in the 1700s, stopped in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. That is as far back as I can in good faith trace my heritage. Learned about clan Mackay in some random research and thought that there might be a connection. Any help at all would be much appreciated! Just trying to learn!

I believe there may be McKee members here more knowledgeable than me, but being interested in surname origins and delving into quite a bit of early 20th and late 19th century genealogical writings and claims, I'll toss out what I've encountered. First, sounds like you're an Ulster-Scot like me. McKee is typically a surname of Scottish origin. Variant spellings among various family branches included not only McKie but also Mackay per these early writings. For that matter, in the Galloway area of Scotland as well as Ayrshire way back when the names of McKee and McGee were often used interchangeably at least in public recordings of the names. But, as early public records were often composed by individuals who recorded what they thought they heard phonetically, that might be expected. Earl

Robert, you may be interested in this. Back in the 1950's Raymond McKee put together a lot of historical info as to Scottish McKee lines in his book, The Book of McKee. Earl
