Hello All. We have hit a brick wall. Our maternal line has been traced to a Robert Keyes (Keies) - who was in Watertown, MA by 1633. It is thought that a Solomon Keyes in Newbury, MA by 1653 was his son. We have been unable to verify where Robert came from. We know that Keyes can be a sept of MacKay. Has anyone been able to verify that Solomon of Newbury, MA (1653) is the son of Robert of Watertown (1633)? Has anyone been able to verify where Robert originated?

Thank you.

Hi Janice,

If you are not already a member of Clan Mackay you might want to join us and take advantage of our member's collective family tree. We have a project that finds common ancestors and that helps to push both family trees back further. Information is listed in the index on our home age.

You might also check the Professional Guilds in MA. Most craftsmen and professional people joined guilds to help ensure more consistent, better paying work.

Court records are also a good source. Corporate building, contracts, land sales, rights of way, tax related confiscation. Every aspect of life has a course of action in the courts.

Don't shy away from the criminal courts either. Your ancestor may have been a witness or a complainant or victim or, shudder, a perpetrator of a crime.

Good luck in your search!

Michelle
