I hate microsoft. There would be nothing more satisfing to have microsoft bite the dust slowly and painfully. To have Bill Gates get run over by a truck. My father who constantly gets part-time jobs as a transulator there always is oddly worried about what I say sometimes against that P.O.S. monopoly.
And somehow, the sent me the fucking xbox live beta.
Christ life is werid.
ANYWAY, it took 3 days to get here and I got it all set up and Ive spent some time with it. Here are my impressions of xboxs online thing:
The Hardware: 4/5
Xbox Live comes with a universal voice chat headset that can be used with all online games. Suprisingly, it fits father nicely on my head. There are many problems with it thou, but many are normal problems you would have with any voice chat headset. First off, it fits on your head werid. The back plastic band which I thought goes over the top of your head goes on the back of your head instead. Yowza. It also feels werid the first couple times wearing it but youll get used to it. The speaker on it can be placed on your right or left ear (woo-ho) But my main complaint with it is something that happens with other players.
Remember when putting it on to KEEP THE FU****** microphone away from your mouth a bit. Too many times if it is too close it actually picks up your breathing. Imagine playing (true story) NFL Fever 2003 and haveing to hear your opponent constantly breathe too loudly cause his stupid microphone is near his mouth. Its just creep :P
Voice is also delayed a bit, but thats okay.
Setup: 2/5
Xbox Live is a subscription service, which isnt bad but there is one screen during the setup that may piss alot of players off. You get 12 months free but you must give a credit card number. In other words you give microsoft a credit card number they keep for a full year, and then the next they cash the 50 bucks out of it.
Uh-thats a long time. My parents didnt like this too much :P
The Beta also seems for me to have horriable connection issues. I was getting bad speeds and I have a cable connection.
Bullshit.
I unplugged the power cord and replugged it on the box. Shut the computer down and restarted xbox live.
Wow, it worked. Ya.
I have to do this each time I go on with Live. This is just too werid.
Games: 3/5
Being a tester you get 2 cds. One is a beta demo of NFL Fever 2003 online. The other disk has Moto Gp and Whacked (GAG!) online demos.
Whacked!:
This game is sooo fucking stupid. I like Presto Studios. There games like the Journey-Man project trilogy and Myst 3 were awsome. WTF is this shit? Whacked! is a stupid mindless game that has you hitting the "B" button way too much. Its like playing Conkers Bad Fur day multiplayer, but the game types are stupider and the charicters arnt at all screwed up as much.
Moto Gp:
Raceing goodness, very fun simple raceing game. Theres nothing much more I can say. From what I played really cool.
NFL FEVER 2003:
Like the first Fever, the players seem as oddly large and fat as ever. I enjoyed Madden 2003's online play on my ps2 better than this one. But the voice chat is always cooler and its fun yelling at your opponent after scoring a touchdown.
Overall: 3/5
Xbox Live has some technical probelms but I look forward for the games that are really going to make this thing take off.
(Unreal Championship, Mech Assult)
Hopefully many of these problems will be addressed (Setup, how much noise the microphone can pick up :P, and the very werid connections.)
If anyone else here has the beta my "gamertag" is "vidiot". (duh) And if you had a better time setting up that I had, please reply to this. Maybe help me out :P
