I've seen it discussed in many different forums, I've seen both somber indecisive type posts and outright flames on the topic... but I've never really read or heard any compelling reasons for WHY the individual has the opinion.
Now, it seems many people are upset that the final fantasy movie is launching in North America before launching in Japan, simply because tradition follows that the home turf for square should get the goods first. I agree with that logic, they should see the film first... however, in concerns with the language of choice, I am strongly thankful and adament in agreement that it should be geared towards english speaking and understanding audiences.
More people in foreign countries speak and understand english, then english countries speak and understand a foreign language. It's sad they not everyone is bilingual, trilingual, or multilingual, but it's the truth.
When you are marketing a product, that highly depends on graphics meshing with the other aspects of film, sound and movement in particular, you must go with the medium that will compliment said product the most. You cannot compare CG with traditional animation; one is intricate and the other is not. If the film was geared towards the japanese language, all other meshing of voice would not connect with the CG movements pre-framed for the tracks. True, in vice versa, no other languages will mesh perfectly if the tracks and CG are meshed for the english language. However, while perhaps 10% of the world speak and understand Japanese, probably 40% or more speak and understand english.
Anyway, these are my reasons for why I favor the choices square made. But I'd like to hear the reasons behind others' opinions...
