What do you think of the FF movie?

I'm curious as to how much 'Final Fantasy Feel' is going to be retained. I mean, magic spells have been the core of Final Fantasy since before when, but I get the feeling these futuristic movie characters aren't going to have magic and aren't going to have summons. Just big guns. Which is a shame, because I would have loved to see Bahamut on the big screen.
If Square ever decides to do another FF movie, I hope its the more like the games. I wanna see magic and stuff...

Well, there are other movies that are somewhat like ff (Aliens) that did well. Someone said FF is only to sell it out... Well, I think thats right. The movie does not seem to carry many of the features the games did. Looking at the trialer, I do not see how SP fits a love story into such a movie... IF they are going to put a "love" story in it.

The "Final Fantasy feel" is also in the story, and that's the strongest point for sakaguchi and all the others working in the movie! That's why it is called Final Fantasy. As far as the love story angle goes, come on, its hollywood! There has to be some kind of love story in there (i.e. Titanic), even if it's not among the main characters...of course a movie closer to the games would have been better, but it's kinda late to keep whining about that (the movie is almost coming out in the US). The next time we should all boycott SP into making a movie closer to the game...if there's a next time...

The movie looks nothing like Final Fantasy. Since i've done 3-D animation before, I have no choice but to appreciate the lovely animation.
I hate to see a movie with so much eye candy, have such a bland story. Thats what happens when Japanese companies try to be american.
Square is just trying to prove that they have the best technology and art. The story sounds even more bland than FF8.
I may even say that FF8 had a better story, how sad.

And the best game of the series in my opinion! 3D animation has become as much Square's trademark nowadays as the name Final Fantasy. So why complain that it doesn't look anything like FF? Bland story? This is Square we're talking about, and if it's something they're good at, it's stories. And I don't think they're trying to be American. What exactly do you call trying to be American anyway? Do you see any characters in the movie wearing an American flag, singing "Star Spangled Banner"? Don't think so! Yes, Square definately has the technology and art, but they also have the talent and creativity that have given us (the gamers) a whole lot of good, great, and excellent games! And where do you come off saying FF8 has a bland story? It definately is not bland. Plenty of excitement there in the story, from the Garden Wars to the Compression of Time. Fail to see it? Oh, well, sorry. And believe me, no one really thinks the story of FF8 is that bland when compared to some of the other stuff out there. How can it be considered bland, when it is so far the best selling FF game from Square, beating even FF7? It's comments like yours that make me love the game even more, knowing that you don't know how to appreciate it.

I love FFVIII's story! Okay, okay, so fall-in-love-romance-save-the-world stories aren't exactly rare in games (or anything else, except real life!!) But it was so well executed and so stylish that I couldn't help but love it. How many people discovered CHV by looking for FFVIII FMVs? Every time the question gets asked, "how did you get here?" the majority of people seem to start with "I was looking for FFVIII FMVs when..."
You're more than welcome to blame me liking this game on me being a girl, but there are plenty of guys out there who like that game as much as I do. Square have to be admire for their innovation in breaking away from the typical FF setting, and to an extent, story, in FFVIII, and imho they were very successful. It's a stunning game for its time, and there are so many parts of it that I just love so much. The storyline was one of the best things about it, I think. A lot of people find Squall to be an obnoxious hero but the fact that he is almost entirely unlikeable for much of the game is an interesting point to the story. The way in which the characters develop, and the twists made it more interesting imo, like when (!!SPOILERS!! for anyone who hasn't played FFVIII!!!!!!) Rinoa tells Squall that she's a sorceress, or the very final scene of the game when Squall doesn't appear in Selphie's video.
FFVIII may not be to everyone's tastes, but it is a great game still.katyjag, a young revolutionary...

Listen Wadoko, I know your just trying to defend your beloved FF, but let's go with the facts. Now that I think about it someone told me that FF7 was made to experiment with the new technology, now i'm starting to belive it.

Square was probably thinking,"Since we make so many cinemas in our super duper epic RPGs', let's make another statement and make a 90 minute cinema. Let's prove once again that we can make up any story with pretty graphics and market it as Final Fantasy just because we can."
I personally don't think it's bad, I just think it's overated. It's definetily not the Street Fighter, Double Dragon, or Mario Bros. move, but it may be mediocre like Mortal Kombat.
Your just very, very bias twards FF or pherhaps Square. And I don't blame you because I love Street Fighter. Thats why I was forced to buy a Dreamcast with most of the Capcom fighters on the market. You probably love FF so much, you have all the games and have been playing it since you were a kid. I can make that connection because i've been playing Street Fighter since it first came out. You have probably been playing FF forever unless your just a FF8 fan who thinks he's a hardcore fan.

The Street Fighter movie sucked, and the animated movie and series wasn't that good, so stop being bias and stop making assuptions that the movie will be good because the games are(I guess) Your bias is only blinding you more.
If comments like these make you like FF more, than i'm happy for you. It's a beutiful thing to have an extreme connection with things such as games. Gamers only understand gamers, and thats why I can relate to you.
All i'm saying is not to be so bias tward FF. Just because I love SF doesn't mean I love everything SF.

Why all the fuss. For one thing, the story wasn't written "by square" perse, rather it was written by a person employed by square pictures as a professional screenwriter-just like every other movie in hollywood. So if the story does suck it won't necessarily be squares fault. It'll be the crappy skill lacking writer's fault. As for the "feel" I do agree that every FF game does have a certain "feel", but I think that that's not because of the game itself, rather because of the fact that FF has been such a big part of peoples lives for so long. Kinda in the same way that some people feel every time they eat a certain food or hug their parents. the movie might lack this because of the fact that it isnt really as personal as the games. For one, the games are enjoyed in the comfort of your own home, and each person relates to the characters much more personally because, in true RPG fasion, you do have some say in their destiny. As for the movie, that feeling may not be there because it will be experienced on a much different level. Instead of being enjoyed intimatley like the games, it will be enjoyed in a room with a bunch of strangers. Plus, since it is a hollywood picture first and foremost, it is a bit more mainstream than the games. To some cynics, like me when I first heard about the storyline, this could be misconstrued as "selling out", but eventually, as I did, everyone will see that it really isn't a big deal.
Anyways, I don't understand how you can complain about the feel of anything at all, after all, as youve said many times before your true passion is fighting games. You only play RPGs on the side. And the only RPGs you ever played (at least to my knowlege) are bits and pieces of FF 7 and FF8, so maybe you don't quite understand this as much as the rest of us FF fans.
And hey, were all friends here so either way, we're all gonna have fun if we see it together, so don't fret guys.
