Osaga is a New Yorker here? Did they actually change her name from Osaga to New Yorker? There were lots of jokes that evolved around her being Osaga...
It's annoying how they can't just simply leave the stories and settings alone. Everyone knows Anime and Manga are from Japan anyways, and I don't think the readers have any problem with it.
What did they change the title of Initial D to?
BTW, did anyone find the guy talking before the movie starts on the Spirited Away DVD annoying? Stupid Disney makes us watch that stupid guy talking about it EVERYTIME! It doesn't even have a chapter mark to skip!

I was having exactly the same conversation with a friend of mine after I read this yesterday. What I *like* about Azumanga is the emphasis on Japanese school culture. I didn't go to school in Japan, I don't know what it's like. If you take that novel part of the experience away you're making something more like a regular Western high school story, and it's just not as interesting.
And yeah, that guy on the Spirited Away dvd *was* annoying.

Aonir, they didn't change the title of "Initial D", however, they did change all of the characters names to make it more american. Takumi became Tak, Itsuki became Iggy, Takeshi became Zach, etc. They did this on both the DVD and the manga. The DVD has two versions released, a "Tricked Out" americanized version, and an unedited "Import" version. However, the unedited version is still edited, as they've tried to tone down and cut out the fact that Natsuki is a prostitute. To make things even WORSE, on the dubbed soundtracks, they got rid of the regular Eurobeat soundtracks and slipped in some shitty garage band stuff.not allowed

Taken from the first 4panel that Osaka appears in:
Yukari: Here's the new student, Ayumu Kasuga
          Students: Wow, the Osakan!
Osaka: I'm Ayumu Kasuga. Nice to meet you.
Yukari: No, not like that. Relax! Speak like yourself! You can say "Yo, how YOU doin?" if you want.
Osaka: (Nobody speaks like that in Osaka...)
          Yukari: Go ahead! Say it
          Osaka: "Yo, how YOU doin?"
She also says things like "Fuhgeddaboutit", "Uhtha" and "Fuhgot."not allowed
