I hate Altered Beast. Talk about boring and annoying.

That's going to give me nightmares.
On another, only partially unrelated, note: I was just watching something on (don't kill me) MTV Canada this morning; Wyclef apparently sold his soul to sony, rappin' for their promotional causes, in exchange for a free PS3 pre-launch (among other contractual payments I am sure). I was mildly disappointed.

I await more information with squinty, unsure, eyes.

The internets speak of such, and I'll test it out on a few games shortly.
Apparently it does add a little bit of a blur, but I'll let you know if I see anything.

There is indeed a little bit of a blur, along with an occasional (de)interlacing flaw popping up now and then, but it is FAR better than it was before the 1.5 update. Final Fantasy XII is actually playable on the PS3 at this point.
Example of the blur, from MGS3, provided from one of the Playstation forums:

I wouldn't recommend the hardcore gamers go and disconnect their PS2s just yet, but it's getting there, and for the casual crowd, it's "fixed".
I'm also quite impressed at the quality of this patch. Sony, on many occasions, said that this glitch had nothing to do with the PS3, and that the problem was with our (HD)TV sets. I applaud the technical wizards at Sony Computer Entertainment for allowing me to download a patch onto my Playstation, that somehow fixed the inherent flaw that millions of televisions had (but never knew about). Unless my 360 can somehow download an update to make my kitchen appliances make a better cup of coffee, this feat will be hard to top.
