As everyone already knows, FFX just came out in the US a few days ago(please pardon any grammatical errors I make right now, as I've gotten very little sleep.). Graphically, this game is second to none. Aside from a few SMALL things here and there, everything is perfect. All the characters convey emotion beautifully, and they all look great. The full motion video is DVD or near-DVD quality, so that should stop some of the complaints. All the main characters are great, and character development is there in spades. This actually brings me to a point about Tidus; most people have felt the need to voice some complaint over how he looks("Oh, he's just some pretty-boy!", "Dammit, he looks like he's outta some boyband."). If you have a problem with Tidus looking a bit too polished then you've probably had problems with all the other male leads in the Final Fantasy series too. Almost all of Amano's male characters were overlly feminine in some way. The voice acting is actually quite good(at first I was hesitant, but then the voice acting really grew on me), but the lip synching needs work(apparently the Japanese lip-synching was pretty bad too, sooooooo......). The plot is spectacular, you keep getting thrown all these plot twists and stuff, very good. And yes, it IS a love story, they always are, though, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. All the Final Fantasy games have been about unity between people, so shut up and deal with it. Localization could use a bit of work, but other than that, it's fine. The battle system is extremely modified, and it's probably one of the best I've ever seen. Letting you know when the enemy is going to attack is a HUGE plus for strategy and utilization of characters. FFX also has the deepest char customization I've ever seen in an FF, thanks to the Sphere Board. It's a little to complicated to explain, but it work's magnificently. I've also seen alot of reviewers address the linearity of the game. It starts out extremely linear, and stays that way for a while. Later on, when you get the airship, it becomes much less linear. Square wanted to give them some guidance in the beginning, and more freedom towards the end, which I think is the way to go. I do have 2 small complaints though. A, the weapons system completely caught me off gaurd, and B, the voice acting of minor characters. The new weapons system is completely different from what's been presented before. Minor characters, while some sound alright, are generally annoying as hell; but they are minor characters, so it doesn't really matter. Final Fantasy X went far beyond my expectations, and I'm happily staking that it may be the best in the series. On a side note, this game has restored my Faith in Square and in the industry.
Any mistakes I've made I'll fix in 9 hours when I get home from work.

Hey, Gestahr, did you notice the different in-game character models? There are at least three varieties, a highly detailed >10,000 poly character for upclose story sequences, a less-detailed (maybe 4-5000 polys, not sure) model for more complex story sequences (this may be the model you move around in the game), and the battle model.
The detailed models are ridiculously well-made, but the low-poly characters surprised me a bit. Aside from the faces, which are still superb, they seemed like a relatively minor step up from, say, Summoner's characters. I mean, three of the fingers on each hand are joined together and separated with false shading.
Did you find this odd?

I didn't find it odd, but they do have trouble expressing emotion with the primary models.

huh? I thought it was just two.
One for story secquences, one for battles and wandering around.
Its the same thing they did for The Bouncer.
Three? Give me a link with info. I belive its just two.

I have the demo and I can only see two.
Then again, you cant really tell anyway, unless you look really hard at the screen.
I guess I have to wait till tuesday to see for sure.
I only noticed the change of charicters it in the scene when
*barely a spoiler*
In Zanarkand:
When the building with Tidus father on the giant screen, comes crumbling down on the bridge. And when the camera goes close to Tidus looking at the destruction. You can see a lesser polygon version of Tidus.
*/barely a spoiler* :-p
Ugh, oh well.

I beat the game recently(I would have beaten it sooner but work got in the way. =| ). The story is top-notch, I'm ripshit about the extra scene the Japanese are getting in FFX international. The sphereboard is the best fucking leveling system I've seen, it has the flexibility of the materia system without the cheese factor(Now Yuffie has Ultima! Now Cloud! L33t h4x0r, ph34r c10ud!). The final battle music is the BEST IN THE FUCKING SERIES(heavy metal. ) And the ending did something no FF game has done before(*****SPOILER*****even if it was remedied at the very end.) THe music all the way through is awesome(Uematsu had helpers this time. ), and the voice acting gets better and better as the game progresses(there are always small rough spots.). FFX has evolved more than ANY other game in the series, and not just graphically. This game COMPLETELY surpassed all my expectations. GET IT NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY.

I would get it if there already was a fucking PAL version...
Anyway IMO the music in FFX isn't that good... I own the OSV several months now and there ARE excellent tracks on it (ie. to zanarkand, normal battle, seymour battle) but the larger part of the soundtrack is a bit boring (lot's of tracks have this really slow ambient sound. This is't bad ofcourse but they are all very similar to one another).
I think the help of the two additional composers was a bad idea. Their different styles have a negative influence on the "final fantasy sound", if I can call it that.
Though this is just my opinion and others might say that the music from FF needed some innovation, I think the FFX OSV is the least of all FF OSVs.
